Publisher's Summary

Holly Stewart moved into Solace House thinking it would be a fresh start for her and her family. She knew a tragic murder had taken place there, but she didn’t know the full ghastly history of the house.

Now, her husband has lost his job, the children are bullied at school, and someone is prowling around the garden at night. Someone who wants them gone.

Detective Jackman wants to help. Instead he’s been pulled into a 20-year-old cold case. The gruesome murder of a young woman whose head was never found. A new witness comes forward. He claims to have crucial evidence on what really happened that night.

Days later, a group of litter-pickers uncover black sacks containing dismembered human limbs. Attending the scene, DS Marie Evans is shocked to see a strange symbol carved into the victim’s flesh: the same symbol found on the headless girl all those years ago.

The murders must be connected. But why has the killer struck again — after 20years?

As the threats to the Stewart family escalate, Jackman must choose between helping people in the present and solving the crimes of the past.

Full of twists and turns, this is a crime thriller that will keep you hooked until the explosive ending.

Overall enjoyable, but something missing

The latest Jackman and Evans mystery was enjoyable, but I couldn't help feeling there was something lacking in the story this time. I didn't feel the same anticipation as the mystery unfolded, as I had in the past. And a death that should have been impactful, instead felt lackluster in its presentation. I truly enjoy these novels, but if this had been the first one I listened to, I wouldn't have wanted to continue with the series. Richard Armitage's narration was wonderful, as always.

Lovely British Story

Great narration. I have a small attention span and struggled remembering all characters until mid way or more through the book.

5 minutes 21 seconds

I could only stand to listen for 5 minutes and 21 seconds. Very boring.

Joy did it again

Joy's stories performed by Richard Armitage is such a winning combination, it's addictive. I've listened to all 9 books in the series with huge enjoyment. Every story different, all surprising, suspenseful, interesting, and way above average. I can't wait for more.

Joy Ellis accompanies my daily dog walking. Always a good story and well performed too. I enjoy the book and my dog enjoys the walk!

What a wonderful read this was for me

This is the first book I’ve read in this series. I’m hooked. The characters, the storyline, the twists, the turns. All I can say is wow! I am definitely going to read the first book and of course the rest of the series. Great performance. Joy Ellis I am so glad that I found your books.
