In the year 2057, the world has become a corporate-run utopia for the super-rich, and a hellhole for all the rest.

Catherine "Cat" Leblanc is an orphan that is about as far from super-rich as one can be. When the Incursion alarms start blaring and the sky starts raining hungry xenos, it's just another blemish on an already piss-poor afternoon.

Stray Cat Strut is a cyberpunk magical-girl alien-invasion LitRPG that's exactly as wild as it sounds.

Writing this review after listening to the first three books. I picked those up after enjoying the authors work in ‘Fluff’ and ‘Cinnamon Bun’
And after listening to another book I really didn’t like.

So with the framework set, I enjoyed the book and do plan on listening to it again. Either when I get more credits and buy the rest of the series or adding to my growing list of books I return to when I hit a few I don’t.

What it isn’t is deep or heavy. It isn’t the most perfectly worked out fictional realm, nor does it have a wide cast of characters over whom one grows to learn to care about.

It does have a fun small cast of extras that help our (perhaps a little too much so) rebellious late teen hero through her first day as an alien magic tech gifted heroic samurai. Maybe more of an alien tech magical girl than a shadowrun inspired street samurai.

It isn’t something that is going to make me think deeply, nor (just like the authors other works) will it help me understand the human condition or whatever it is English majors praise dull classics for.

I enjoyed my time with it, I will get more at some point. If the first one doesn’t quite land for you the next two don’t really change too much.

Rating it to balance out the karma of dumping on one book by raising up one other.

Light but fun

solid listening while driving. Not a super complex or stunning plot, but fun enough to make my commutes much better.

Solid production, good enough story

This story is an absolute delight. Narrators are top notch. The writing is great, the humour is fantastic.
My only very minor gripe is how numerous and often the point readouts happen when purchasing / obtaining points.

A solid 4.9/5

Such a fun start to a series. With characters you want to learn more about and see grow.

First of all, this is not really a LitRPG, it's more of a "LitFPS". The MC gets a store front that can give her equipments such as guns, armor, medpacks etc, but she doesn't get stronger without all her gear. There is also a personal AI shopping assitant who pretty much makes all the decisions - it's like MC is running on auto-pilot for the whole book.
Normally I wouldn't have bothered with this type of story, but the various characters (specifically their banters) are so fun that it covers up all the faults of the book.
