I’ve loved the film adaptation all my life, but the book has even more layers and is more immersive in its details. With Wil Wheaton reading, it’s like you’re right in it. He did such a great job. Gut-wrenching and life-affirming, and so nostalgic. I especially love the present day narrator interjections, and the underlying thematic exploration of the limitations of language to truly convey the nuances of human experience. I also appreciate how the book doesn’t shy away from a very real and poignant form of love, in friendship between boys.
