Publisher's Summary

When the most eligible Earl of Rule offers for the hand of the beauty of the Winwood family, he has no notion of the distress he causes his intended. For Miss Lizzie Winwood is promised to the excellent, but impoverished, Mr Edward Heron. Disaster can only be averted by the delightful impetuosity of her youngest sister, Horatia, who conceives her own, distinctly original plans . . .

Laugh out loud characters and dialogue

I enjoyed this story very much. The characters made me laugh out loud. Have listened to it many times. A worthwhile audiobook.

A good story, but poor narration

I like this story of Horatia, who offers herself to the Earl of Rule in place of her older sister, but the narration quite spoiled it. I never could like Horatia as portrayed by the Narrator, and none of the male characters had believable voices. The inflection in many passages was very affected, making it impossible to listen to.
Although the Armitage version is abridged, it is by far the better one. I ended up returning this and getting the other instead.
