I have many feelings about this book, and even some notes about specific scenes that particularly bothered me, but I'm honestly just too tired to get into it. Suffice it to say, I enjoyed the plot, but I do not like this author's way of writing. I've tried reading her books before, and while she has a decent sense of humour, and her descriptions can be lovely, I don't like the omniscient POV (I prefer tight third in HR novels), among other things.

Honestly, I look forward to when this comes out on Netflix, because I think that I'll like the way it's portrayed far better on film than how it's written. Not sure if I'll read the others in the series, despite having already bought the next one.

The Duke and I

       With my monthly membership to my audiobook site. I get a free editor choice book. This month was, The Duke and I by Julia Quinn. 

     I would not call this a great book. Not because it's a romance novel, there are many romantic books that are great. But it felt a bit redundant. As if I have read similar stories that were much more entertaining.

     That is not to say it was not enjoyable, my dear readers. This book does have many moments that made me laugh or caught my attention. For example the awkward "wedding night" conversation between mother and daughter. I just found it very predictable. I will say it was an easy listen and a good book to just let your mind relax. 

      In the story we are introduced to the future Duke of Hastings. Whose mother dies at childbirth. The young child is further traumatized by an overbearing father. Who rejects his son because of a stutter. Going so far as to abandon him to the care of maids and caretakers. Not even acknowledging his son's existence until later, or ever apologizing for his cruelty.

    When the young Duke takes his title after his uncaring father's death. The bachelor  duke makes an agreement with   the eldest Bridgeton family daughter in a fake courtship that eventually leads to their actual marriage. After some humorous awkward moments.

     Their love and marriage are ture. Like many relationships there are some serious "bumps''. Caused by the mentioned psychological damage done to the duke as a you boy. When the walls come down and they bare their naked soles to each other. Their love and relationship is solidified and made stronger

    This book does touch on the psychological damage of station and expectations of the nobles in Victorian age England. It does a great job in pointing out that all the oppression of information and emotions creates problems. That high society is in itself a prison. That expects conformity to its social standards.

    This book does a great job in showing the importance of communication. Especially between husband and wife to help heal wounds and having a healthy relationship 

     Rosalyn Landor does a good job with her narration. Performing with confidence and professionalism.

    As ever I thank all involved in the creation, production, distribution and support of both book and audiobook. With each book I consume makes me a bit better.

This is a great book to lose yourself in. Wish there was a bit more to the story line.

A good but simple story

Oh my heaving bosoms and rippling thighs... I have never read one of these romance novels and I have to admit it was - for me - a delightful mix of giggles, groans, and blushing cheeks. Could NOT put it down. Not sure if I would play this aloud in a room, but then, that's the fun of it. The narrator was fantastic: would love to have been a fly on the wall when she read this.

wow just wow… bro ima be honest w y’all being a black man that’s 22 i never not in a million years thought i would be entrapped by a book of this genre. No matter the person whoever reads this book after the first chapter will want to finish the rest of the series in a day. this is my one and only review on this app and i think it was well worth it.

Listened after watching Bridgerton on Netflix and wanted more of Simon and Daphne. Story was different than the show, some characters were not in the original books, and this story focused only on Simon and Daphne. I really enjoyed it and can’t wait to listen to the whole series!

For someone like myself who has not experienced romance or shivalry this is inspiring that it does exist and really opens up your mind on what is possible. This story is full of education when it comes to true profound love and can make one realize some things they did not know where possible. A very enjoyable listen I highly recommend 👌
