What could possibly be “lucky” about addiction? Absolutely nothing, thought Laura McKowen when drinking brought her to her knees. As she puts it, she “kicked and screamed . . . wishing for something - anything - else” to be her issue. The people who got to drink normally, she thought, were so damn lucky. But in the midst of early sobriety, when no longer able to anesthetize her pain and anxiety, she realized that she was actually the lucky one. Lucky to feel her feelings, live honestly, really be with her daughter, change her legacy.

This book transforms your thoughts from "I wish I could drink" to "I absolutely do not want to drink". I did not drink often, but when I did drink I would almost always over consume, so with the help of this book, abstaining has been simple.

Deconstructs the desire for booze.
I've drunk to the detriment of my life for the last 20 years. I've often wanted to cut down and didn't understand how stopping altogether could be possible.
I read this book with an open mind. Now I don't want to drink at all, and can see myself lasting until I die without wanting another drink. This book de-brain-washes you. It removes the monkey from your back and gives you freedom.
I'm currently in the process re-planning my life activities, because now my life revolves around events I want to be involved in for their own sake, rather than for the booze I plan to drink. I am present in myself now. And literally, within a week, my beaten down self-esteem has bounced back (finally!) and I feel confident I have the ability to now shape the life I want.
The future is now exciting to me. Not frightening.
If you think you might have a problem, which you clearly do if you're reading this review, then listen to this book! It seemed impossible to me to, but you will see what I mean.
All the best!

That Was Easy
Any additional comments?
Why I started this book.
In the comments I read, I was encouraged by the heavy drinkers to pick up this book, because I didn't believe it could work. I had been to AA meetings and being an atheist, I immediately locked up. I would have gone to listen to the stories (like the narrator character in Fight Club), but not to experience change. I'm a sailor, and I developed a very heavy drinking habit, and was able to maintain it without many repercussions at work, because a lot of my bosses have heavy drinking problems. My wife said I needed to do something--and after countless times of shooting back a, "yeah, sure, I'll get on that." I finally realized that I might lose her if I didn't.
My drinking.
I would drink a six pack a night, about once or twice every month (this was meant for nights when I was exercising "control" because there was something important happening the next day): every other day of that month, I drank at least ten beers plus shots of whatever I had in the freezer. I'd finish off a 30 pack on Saturday and Sunday as long as I woke up in time to drink through the morning. I only breaks I took from drinking for the past 10 years where when I had to deploy or when I was too sick for the hair of the dog. I never drank to enjoy a beverage to complement a meal or any hoity toity nonsense like that: I drank to get drunk. And if I ever started drinking and couldn't reach that goal for some reason, I was mad.
What the transition was like.
I listened to the book in the car, washing dishes, etc. I didn't quit drinking when I started it, but I followed the instructions and I never listened while I was drinking. I had a lot of fear at first, but I decided to go to the bar with my wife and I knew my friends were going to have some questions about this, because I quit. Nowadays, I go to the bar to play golden tee golf, and darts, but I haven't had a drink in about three months, and I don't see any reason I'd ever drink again. I have to admit I was nervous to go to a bar and try to avoid drinking, but it's really easy.
Bonus.
I ended up reaping some great unexpected benefits, too. Sure, I feel better and I wake up more excited, but my mood has balanced out a lot. And I have always been someone who has a very uneven mood. I has allowed me to remove delusional beliefs in other areas of my life as well. You don't recognize how brainwashed you are until you start going through it one by one. My recommendation is to keep this self improvement going with a book like miracle morning or practicing mindfulness.
Best wishes.

Saved my life
This book literally saved my life. I had lost all hope but after quitting smoking with the help of Allen Carr I figured I might as well give this a try and to my amazement it worked. It didn’t work right away however. I took long drives listening, long walks and so on. Listened to it many times, while going to work, while walking around, I just surrounded myself with this information all the time and it eventually clicked. I haven’t had one sip of alcohol in 3 years now and I don’t miss it at all. On the contrary, I find the thought of drinking horrendous. So have a very open mind, let the information sink in, it won’t happen right away but when it does it will be absolutely amazing.

Subliminal Messaging? Whatever Works!
What did you learn from The Easy Way to Control Alcohol that you would use in your daily life?
The content itself seems unbelievably simple but after listening to it, I have no desire to drink. Was it hypnotism? Subliminal suggestion? It doesn't really matter to me, I am 2 weeks sober without struggle! 21 days in rehab were not as effective as these 8 hours.
Any additional comments?
Don't judge it until you give it a good try. I felt no desire to drink after listening to the first half, but completed the whole thing. Some of his ideas seem dated or regionally specific, but it still worked for me.

A Phenomenal Read for All Walks of Life
Great book, seriously, everyone should read, EVERYONE. I liked the comparison of the voice of desires inside ones head vs the voice of reason and how that comparison reflects on schizophrenia. The author could have skipped the stuff about holes in the ozone and homo sapiens killing animals because that deflected the impact of the great meaning and message that this book contains.

20 days Alcohol Free!
I drive around or go for a walk for hours near the water to listen to this book. Quitting alcohol doesn't have to be this dreaded daily struggle many of us think. Truly just dont want it anymore. Sometimes I think I must have been subconsciously hypnotized, in a good way, because I felt free almost immediately. That's saying a lot. I used to look forward to binge nights 2-3 nights a week. The hangovers and embarrassing stories were getting worse, so bad. I attribute at least 90% of my sobriety to this book. I had the will and the desire but willpower is faulty and never 100% especially on a bad day. This book really opened my eyes. I recommend it in my sober fb group frequently and keep it handy for those now rare times I might feel worried, but honestly it's more like a worry about a worry I dont really have anymore! #1 tool in my sober toolkit!

A relentless ad for nothing
He promises an easy out. It turns out to be the realization that alcohol is of no value. That's fine, but the way he goes about saying so is exhausting. By the end, it's impossible not to feel like you've just sat through a time share presentation or a pitch to be part of a pyramid scheme. Shut. Up.
