À propos de cet audio

THE GODS LOVE TO PLAY WITH US MERE MORTALS. AND EVERY HUNDRED YEARS, WE LET THEM …

I have never been favored by the gods. Far from it, thanks to Zeus.

Living as a cursed office clerk for the Order of Thieves, I just keep my head down and hope the capricious beings who rule from Olympus won’t notice me. Not an easy feat, given San Francisco is Zeus’ patron city, but I make do. I survive. Until the night I tangle with a different god.

The worst god. Hades.

For the first time ever, the ruthless, mercurial King of the Underworld has entered the Crucible—the deadly contest the gods hold to determine a new ruler to sit on the throne of Olympus. But instead of fighting their own battles, the gods name mortals to compete in their stead.

So why in the Underworld did Hades choose me—a sarcastic nobody with a curse on her shoulders—as his champion? And why does my heart trip every time he says I’m his?

I don’t know if I’m a pawn, bait, or something else entirely to this dangerously tempting god. How can I, when he has more secrets than stars in the sky?

Because Hades is playing by his own rules … and Death will win at any cost.

I enjoyed this book and how it got the vibes of the gods down well. However, the chapter organization is very strange. A chapter will end in the middle of a scene, like a TV show episode limited to ten minutes. If this book had its chapters reorganized to the different days, locations, or events, it would make a lot more sense.

Interesting story

The world of Olympus is beautiful and sounds so glorious! The trials are intriguing and thrilling. The characters are well rounded and developed. The entire book is engaging and creates a truly great read. Can’t wait for book 2!

Ooooo new Shadow Daddy

Okay, I FLEW through this book, it gripped me and didn’t let go 🔥 Trials, riddles, meddling gods, nonstop tension — it was everything.

The trials were actually fun and fresh (shocking, because I find trial-heavy books can sometimes get boring or repetitive). Here? Every challenge had me holding my breath.

The world-building totally blew me away. Not just Olympus, but the modern human world too — gods openly worshiped, champions chosen by the gods/goddess in a televised selection like it’s the Olympics, streets packed with celebrations, a month-long festival buzzing with news updates and interviews with the families of champions… it felt SO real, like something you’d actually see on TV. I was living for it!

The characters were another highlight — every one of them had me invested. The plot was thrilling, fast-paced, and immersive, with zero dull moments.

🎧📖 Immersive reading note: my new fave way to read! The solo narrator was fantastic, but tell me why we didn’t get a deep, booming male voice for the gods?? That would’ve been perfection!

✨ Bonus: Book 2 is out Oct 21st and THANK HADES I don’t have to wait long! 🖤

Absolutely loved this. It draws you in so well and has you cheering and crying for characters within chapters. The ending literally had me going 'what the fu*k' out loud. Obsessed. Only giving 4 for performance as more distinct male voices would have helped in telling characters apart.

Overall happy with this read. The story was fun and kept me wanting to keep listening. Nothing out of this world original but great overall. If you are looking for smut you will be fairly disappointed. There is one good scene but that's it.
The ending has a great hook. Looking forward to the next book!

Interesting story with enguaging trials

I'm absolutely hooked on 'The Games Gods Play'! The trials the characters face are intense and thought-provoking, pushing them to their limits in ways that are both heartbreaking and inspiring. But what really gets me is the love story - it's so gripping and tender, with a slow-burn tension that had me swooning. I'm desperate to know what happens next and can't wait for the next book in the series. Abigail Owen's writing is captivating, and I'm already counting down the days until the next installment.
