Story
Every day we experience the uncertainty, risks, and emotional exposure that define what it means to be vulnerable or to dare greatly. Based on 12 years of pioneering research, Dr. Brené Brown dispels the cultural myth that vulnerability is weakness and argues that it is, in truth, our most accurate measure of courage. Brown explains how vulnerability is both the core of difficult emotions like fear, grief, and disappointment, and the birthplace of love, belonging, joy, empathy, innovation, and creativity.

Story
Social scientist Brené Brown has ignited a global conversation on courage, vulnerability, shame, and worthiness. Her pioneering work uncovered a profound truth: Vulnerability - the willingness to show up and be seen with no guarantee of outcome - is the only path to more love, belonging, creativity, and joy. But living a brave life is not always easy: We are, inevitably, going to stumble and fall. It is the rise from falling that Brown takes as her subject in Rising Strong.

Brené Brown has spent the past two decades studying the emotions and experiences that give meaning to our lives, and the past seven years working with transformative leaders and teams spanning the globe. She found that leaders in organizations ranging from small entrepreneurial startups and family-owned businesses to nonprofits, civic organizations, and Fortune 50 companies all ask the same question: How do you cultivate braver, more daring leaders, and how do you embed the value of courage in your culture? This audiobook answers this question.

Dr. Brown defines spirituality as something not reliant on religion, theology, or dogma - rather, it is a belief in our interconnectedness and in a loving force greater than ourselves. Whether you access the sacred through traditional worship, solitary meditation, communion with nature, or creative pursuits, one thing is clear: Rising strong after falling is a spiritual practice that brings a sense of perspective, meaning, and purpose to our lives.

Story
We've all seen the happiness on the face of a child while playing in the school yard. Or the blissful abandon of a golden retriever racing across a lawn. This is the joy of play. By definition, play is purposeless, all-consuming, and fun. But as Dr. Stuart Brown illustrates, play is anything but trivial. It is a biological drive as integral to our health as sleep or nutrition. We are designed by nature to flourish through play.

Burnout. Many women in America have experienced it. What’s expected of women and what it’s really like to be a woman in today’s world are two very different things - and women exhaust themselves trying to close the gap between them. Sisters Emily Nagoski, PhD, and Amelia Nagoski, DMA, are here to help end the cycle of feeling overwhelmed and exhausted. Instead of asking us to ignore the very real obstacles and societal pressures that stand between women and well-being, they explain with compassion and optimism what we’re up against - and teach us how to fight back.

Have you ever wondered "Why did I do that?" or "Why can't I just control my behavior?" Others may judge our reactions and think, "What's wrong with that person?" When questioning our emotions, it's easy to place the blame on ourselves; holding ourselves and those around us to an impossible standard. It's time we started asking a different question. Through deeply personal conversations, Oprah Winfrey and renowned brain and trauma expert Dr. Bruce Perry offer a groundbreaking and profound shift from asking “What’s wrong with you?” to “What happened to you?”

Publisher's Summary
The 10th-anniversary edition of the game-changing number one New York Times best seller, featuring a new foreword.
For more than a decade, Brené Brown has found a special place in our hearts as a gifted mapmaker and a fellow traveler. She is both a social scientist and a kitchen-table friend whom you can always count on to tell the truth, make you laugh, and, on occasion, cry with you. And what's now become a movement all started with The Gifts of Imperfection, which has sold more than two million copies in 35 different languages across the globe.
What transforms this book from words to effective daily practices are the 10 guideposts to wholehearted living. The guideposts not only help us understand the practices that will allow us to change our lives and families, they also walk us through the unattainable and sabotaging expectations that get in the way.
Brené writes, "This book is an invitation to join a wholehearted revolution. A small, quiet, grassroots movement that starts with each of us saying, 'My story matters because I matter.' Revolution might sound a little dramatic, but in this world, choosing authenticity and worthiness is an absolute act of resistance."

Bringing me to tears...
Your books have been incredibly helpful. My therapist got me started and now I'm hooked. I'm unpacking 47yrs of being controlled, manipulated, used, beat, and many other things that my mother spit my way. Her form of punishment was to have me bare bummed, leaning over the tub and hitting me with my dad's belt. it wasn't like one or two hits. She would hit me with every new sentence leaving my little body full of welts- on my bum or legs or back causing welts all over. My first memory of her anger and wrath was I was 2 and my hair was tangled. She became very frustrated because I was crying and telling her it hurt. She then used the wooden side of the brush and hit me on the head. I told my Granny about the memory hoping it wasn't true, but she confirmed it. Apparently mom called her mom and asked to come get us. Mom told her what happened.
Then at 4 years old, mom came after me for a minor thing and yelling to get "ready" - bare bum over tub "ready". I don't remember being beat that day, because my 13 year old brother stepped in and took it for me. So so so many things similar throughout my life. I could write a book about this stuff.
And guess what? I was always there for her, especially after my dad died. She was an alcoholic rage filled mean 5' person and despite it all, I was the one who had her live with me after getting her test results, CANCER, Pancreatic to be specific.
We were give a 6 to 9 months timeline. She died in 6weeks. She wasn't all bad and I do believe that she loved me. ..... I hope so. That was almost 4yrs ago and I've been working on dealing with the trauma caused throughout my life and I have THE BEST THERAPIST EVER!
Thank you for your brilliance, your stories, you dedication and your vulnerability. ( I'm still working on that one. My walls have protected me many times)
A loyal Canadian fan,
Tracy Campbell

Brené Brown is the real deal. This book is deep but instantly relatable. Brown never talks down to her reader, and several parts had me chuckling. Don't let that fool you though, lots to mull over in this one. One of the few in this genre I am going to sincerely recommend to others.

it was pretty good
Some good advice but lots of rambling examples that were hard to follow. It felt like a lot of time was wasted on bla bla bla. I also didn't really like the parts about god, but I understand that aspect is an important part of the authors life, it just doesn't resonate with me.

As usual, after listening to or read something of Brené’s work, I feel like the world is ok. Anecdotal drivel
I’ve tried a few times to get Brené Brown. I still can’t. I think it maybe because she has breadth but no depth. She covers everything on the surface level and all her anecdotes are personal instead of from a variety of people who she supposedly researches. I am tired of this genre of women self-help books who all essentially say “you should be happy no matter your circumstances because I am and this is how I do it so why aren’t you?”. If you want a book that actually is written by a real researcher with more than personal anecdotes then check out Emotional Agility by Susan David. That book actually helped instead of pandering to the anxious masses.

Started and finished today
I love Brené Brown’s work, having only (somehow) discovered her work in the last year. I tend to believe it’s the “when the student is ready the teacher appears thing.” Anyway - while on vacation and focusing on my “play” I listened “cover to cover” today, especially enjoying that Brené reads her own work. This is just so freaking GOOD and powerful . I will listen again and again, and yes, go to the “hub” to pull down all the things also released today to accompany. What a teacher and what a great thing to be a part of, Brené’s community

Excellent resource for most all people
This exposesThe fallacies of the human mind. It exposes our false need to be perfect and to see the value of ourselves both and self-worth and self-esteem. When the reader really puts work and effort into the things taught, depression can be reduced.

One of the bests self reflection authors in my opinion
I was waiting for this book to be finally read by the author, I’m so glad she did ! I love her narrative style as well as the content, which is always very helpful. Brené Brown inspires my daily life and my professional growth, all her books should be read again and again. Thank you Brené Brown 🙏🏻
