À propos de cet audio
FINALIST FOR THE HUGO AWARD • ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS OF THE YEAR: Paste, Publishers Weekly
The one thing you never talk about while you’re in the Scholomance is what you’ll do when you get out. Not even the richest enclaver would tempt fate that way. But it’s all we dream about: the hideously slim chance we’ll survive to make it out the gates and improbably find ourselves with a life ahead of us, a life outside the Scholomance halls.
And now the impossible dream has come true. I’m out, we’re all out—and I didn’t even have to turn into a monstrous dark witch to make it happen. So much for my great-grandmother’s prophecy of doom and destruction. I didn’t kill enclavers, I saved them. Me and Orion and our allies. Our graduation plan worked to perfection: We saved everyone and made the world safe for all wizards and brought peace and harmony to all the enclaves everywhere.
Ha, only joking! Actually, it’s gone all wrong. Someone else has picked up the project of destroying enclaves in my stead, and probably everyone we saved is about to get killed in the brewing enclave war. And the first thing I’ve got to do now, having miraculously gotten out of the Scholomance, is turn straight around and find a way back in.

The motives are logical, the plot is interesting and loaded with twists & turns, and the dialogue is well-planned and realistic. Less fortunately, the protagonist is distinctly unlikable: El continues her hostile, invariably angry sensitivity to being misunderstood - furious, easily offended, and constantly telling us how easily she could kill *everyone* (but won't.. because that would be what they expect her to do and she's actually cartoonishly GOOD). Her sanctimonious grievance (and passive-aggressive sarcasm) gets pretty tiresome.
Setting aside the problems with characterization - and Novik's bizarre preoccupation with Diversity - however, this is a very enjoyable world-changing teenaged heroine story on a par with anything by Suzanne "Hunger Games" Collins or Leigh "Shadow and Bone" Bardugo.
Random House Audio further enhance my opinion of the recording by providing exemplary technical support to reader Anisha Dadia. Dadia's interpretation of El's biting sarcasm is a little bit understated - but her diction, cadence, timbre, and tone are commendable.. and the rest of her voice-acting repertoire is spot-on.
Altogether, Novik ties up loose ends and closes off her trilogy nicely. To be sure, this book makes little sense without having read Books One + Two.. but the time investment is worth it.
As to 'The Golden Enclaves': coupled with the impressive quality standards for the recording, this iteration of an entertaining YA Fantasy chronicle rates 8.5 stars out of 10.
[Note: Novik's attempts to include Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion principles into the story are once again clumsy. The lesbian play between 'El' and 'Lisl' is incongruent with the characters, for example. It's obviously there for the sake of being there]
