Would be great if it wasn't LitRPG

I enjoyed most of listening to this, and the reader did a fine job, and the story is good, but I just can't do LitRPGs in Audiobook format. I stopped after only a couple chapters and downloaded the book and read it normally. Every time I had to listen to them read out the character status page or all the details of every item picked up, I died a little inside, but none of that is the fault of the author or the reader, that's just a problem with all audiobooks in this particular subgenre

Not for me

I suppose I just didn't understand what litRPG was when I dove into this, so this isn't to say that the content wouldn't be what someone else is looking for, I just believe the story would benefit from not being interrupted by pings and notifications constantly reminding you that the character is not in an organic world/realm. The constant forced humour from the main character seems plainly out of character, how quickly he adapts and accepts to being thrown into a new world with no idea of how to leave is unbelievable, and any attempts to make him relatable make me want to distance myself from that person. The only time he had ever swung his fists were at "frat boys when they got too close to his female friends"? come on...

Smugness Abounds

I got about halfway through this book. I'm clearly in the minority since I only purchased this book based on the number of high reviews. Richter reminds me of a child playing an RPG who rage quits the game because his friends aren't playing fair. The author seems to be transparently showing off his "cleverness" in using the Richter to outsmart NPC type characters.

Imaginitative Book Series

The recording #Audible1 was a amazing and actually felt like I was in the series. The recording group does not just record the narrator but add in sounds to liven up the video game experience. Can feel the characters. So much is going on and shit hits the fan and just so good. Totally recommend this book.

Great book and series!

I stumbled onto what this genre called LitRPG. I’m a big gamer and this great to listen to while at work or commuting. The voice work is great and keeps me well engaged with what going on. I’m now on book 7 and still happy with it all.

An easy listen, following the storyline and enough action to keep you interested. In other words, I brought the next book in rhe series.

Good introduction to the world of lit rpgs

This was my first lit rpg and having been a longtime fan of dog games, both tabletop and electronic, I was pleasantly surprised. The author and narrator were able to accurately capture the nuances of a typical gamer relating to characters in a fantasy world.

Really looking forward to see how this shapes up as a series.

Great Book, Brilliant Narrator

The story has a unique premise for a litrpg novel, setting it apart from other works like Eden's Gate or Sword Art. The author writes the main character Richter with a very cavalier style that is addicting to listen to. The narrator though is what makes me prefer the audiobook to the ebook, his performance is stellar and sound effects are well used.

Beautiful Progression

As the story blooms so does our righteous protagonist, as a fan of character development and progression in Rpg games this was a fun read and I would recommend if you're also watching the anime "Rising of the shield hero"

Outstanding book!

I have nothing bad to say about this book, it is funny, exciting, and there's rarely a dull moment. I guess the stat reading does get a bit old after a while, but it is necessary and informative. The narrator is wonderful and does a phenomenal job. Going to start book 2 now!

Truly enjoyable.

This has been my first experience with gamelit. I only just discovered the term two days ago. Audible suggested this to me and I am happy it did. As an avid gamer I enjoyed the inside jokes as well as some of the goofiness. The drama and seriousness doesn't come till very late in the book but it caps off the experience well and I found myself pleasantly disappointed when it ended. I am glad there is a long series to follow it up.

Life Changing Experience

In all my life I have had problems reading and/or listening to books. Either they go too fast or are too confusing. It got to the point where I would not read just because I knew that I wasn't going to like it. Eventually, my friend came along and let me borrow his audible. I listened to about ten minutes of this before buying a subscription outright and then ordering the whole series. This has opened my eyes to a new genre of books and how good stories on audible are read. I especially appreciate the accents and the smoothness of Nick Podehl when he reads. It made this story even better.

Enjoyable 4.5

I struggle with this review as while the story has a good flow, there is no obvious gripping story as to why I should want Richter to be successful. Sure, he is excitedly in a new world but he doesn't have a more clear goal of his new life other than to raise the village and Adventure(!). This book has some fun and light elements which really helped not drag it to boring territory. It doesn't get better than the Imp Noob Guide though. I'll check out the next one.

This is good if you’ve ever played a MMORPG.

I didn’t think watching a character level up could be so interesting. If you’ve played a RPG video game before you’ll get a lot of the references. The is a great first book and I already bought the second.

Oh and the performance by Nick Podehl was out standing. He has an outstanding character voice range.

May the ground shake

Loved the new version of the audiobook the narrator really helped to bring the book to life.

I have read up till book six and love the series but love audiobooks so that they are able to bring the story to life. Looking forward to more of the books in the series to be brought to life.

The book I've always wanted to read

This is the book I've dreamed of reading since I first played D&D as a kid in the 80s I listened to the audiobook, and the performance was brilliant. It really enhanced the experience, though I'm tempted to get the kindle version now so I can go over the stats in more detail. I've read fantasy for years but this was my first litRPG. I've been reluctant to try them, but now I'm really glad I did. Just a really fun read. Got to go now and download the next book.
