In The Land: Predators, the Mist Village has harnessed its power. With core buildings, professional fighters, and now their own dungeon, the settlement is primed to grow into a kingdom of true power and magic. The path to power has not been without risk, however. Would be great if it wasn't LitRPG
I enjoyed most of listening to this, and the reader did a fine job, and the story is good, but I just can't do LitRPGs in Audiobook format. I stopped after only a couple chapters and downloaded the book and read it normally. Every time I had to listen to them read out the character status page or all the details of every item picked up, I died a little inside, but none of that is the fault of the author or the reader, that's just a problem with all audiobooks in this particular subgenre

Amazing!
A wonderful start to a series that I have no doubt will be great. The level up sounds are an acquired taste, but fit given the genre. I am now fully in love with the LITRPG genre after listening to this book. It fuses my love of Fantasy and Video games perfectly. It also makes me want to log onto my PC and embark on another ESO quest.
The narrator was amazing with the different characters, and.the writer is clearly skilled at story telling. I've already procured book 2, and will be starting it immediately.
Also, as a side note, for those who are put off by the level up noises, the best I can tell you is that I was too at first, but they decrease in frequency and become tolerable as an acquired taste.

It's not worth reading.
Poor writing. constantly contradicts its own rules for the world. The protagonist is a self-absorbed moron with no redeeming qualities. All the other characters flock to him like he is god.. Avoid this series if you respect yourself.

Not for me
I suppose I just didn't understand what litRPG was when I dove into this, so this isn't to say that the content wouldn't be what someone else is looking for, I just believe the story would benefit from not being interrupted by pings and notifications constantly reminding you that the character is not in an organic world/realm. The constant forced humour from the main character seems plainly out of character, how quickly he adapts and accepts to being thrown into a new world with no idea of how to leave is unbelievable, and any attempts to make him relatable make me want to distance myself from that person. The only time he had ever swung his fists were at "frat boys when they got too close to his female friends"? come on...

Struggle to keep listening.
I honestly was so turned off by the unlikable characters, forced humor, and terrible story that I only made it about half way. Incredibly boring read. Main character is such a whiny brat. The side characters have no consistency to them. It's so bad that they'll watch as the MC dies, then suddenly be his blood-brothers a day later. ???????
Narrator was good, everything else was awful, and I'm a huge lit-rpg fan.

Great Book, Brilliant Narrator
The story has a unique premise for a litrpg novel, setting it apart from other works like Eden's Gate or Sword Art. The author writes the main character Richter with a very cavalier style that is addicting to listen to. The narrator though is what makes me prefer the audiobook to the ebook, his performance is stellar and sound effects are well used.

For The Mist!
If your looking for adventure and some laughs, this book is the one for you. It introduce a lot of progression among world as well as characters.. There quest that link to other quest just like proper video game fashion. Personality are pretty spot on, Nick Podel did and awesome Job delivering the characters in Audible. Speak of which main character make alot of references which is refreshing. Give it a chance like i did. I'am Sure you'll become a fan.

Less Story More Interruptions
This was my first audio book in the LitRPG genre. I don't know if it's just this book, or the genre, that didn't quite work for me. The story was good, but character development was ordinary at best. But that's not the biggest problem. The main issue is the constant and very very long status updates that break up the narration/progress of story. The protagonist goes about his tasks, accomplishes something, and the narration gets interrupted by something like "Congratulations. You have accomplished X task. You have earned X points and X rewards and your status is now X and your strength is now X and your health is now X and you have achieved level X in X skills..." Such updates happen too frequently and go on for far too long. If this were a print book I could skip it, but in audio book format you don't even have that option. This completely fractured the listening experience for me. As for the character development: one book into the series, I am not emotionally invested in the protagonist's story enough to buy book 2. Sorry, but pass.

This is an incredible story that is performed by the smoothest voice. You truly get enveloped into the lives of the characters and the plot.

Overrated, somewhat charming
Got half way through, had fun with the first quarter, then I wondered, “what’s the point?” Waited until 50%, I saw a trend. Just literature dopamine rushes and character progressions, and then, like a bible being lobbed like a grenade, came the explosive emergent cringe worthy politics of the average leftist peasant, “it doesn’t usually get more cringe worthy and self unaware. This has been fun and it will be more better than this.” I thought. Nope the plot isn’t truly about transdimensional demon gods of Shinto pandemonium, it’s all about that multiculturalism and evil conservatives being ignorant rich bigots, ironically, as the main character is looking for ‘colorful’ cheap labor to risk their lives for him on the troll infested frontier. Real cringe. I’m used to the incredible inability to understand oppositional view points of right wingers, by almost everyone, but why would you drop it on the reader half way through when your story seems to be talking about cosmic evils and corruptions, then suddenly inject the existential need for,”be nice to kids that don’t look like you, and that may have fed your human kind to trolls, or rabid wolves.” Anyways, I feel like a fool to have not seen that coming, even if there’s no way I could have. Overall, I rate this 2 soy beans out of five blue arm pit haired, stunning and brave college campus woman’s rights evangelists, out of 5. Skyrim belongs to the Nords. Will be exchanging. As if I need even more of this brain cancer in my life. Fun dopamine story though, before it’s story got full of big soy.

Great job in merging RPG/D&D and novella
This was such a fun time listening to this book to where I looked forward to hopping back in my car just to hear what happened next.

great first book
I really enjoyed the book and am glad there are six more (as of now) for me to go through.
my only complaint is that the authors EXTENSIVE explanation of gear, leveling, etc. I find myself skipping those.

What I’ve been looking for
This was a wonderful experience. The story moved along well, with seeds of a much bigger story still to come! Great humor and character interaction.
Nick Podgel is easily one of the top narrators I’ve ever had the pleasure of listening to.
Ralph Waldo Emerson said “Tis the good reader that makes the good book”
I say Tis the phenomenal narrator that makes the phenomenal book.

Worth every star given.
I finished this book in less than 2 working days. I honestly couldn't take my headphones out to stop listening. You are captured from the very first word and left wanting more on the last. I can't wait to listen to the rest of this series and hope they get even better from here.

Possibly the worst book I've listened to
Even though I couldn't return it, I haven't managed to finish it.
The main character has no personality whatsoever, it seems like following the life of an NPC in a game, every interaction he has with other characters sound false. I think it's partly to blame with the writer, partly with the narrator, but the dialogues are really bland and the way the main character reacts to anything isn't credible at all.
The story is classic rpg like game, nothing special, and with only two-dimensional characters to follow, it gets boring pretty fast.
I don't get the hype. In the same genre but with a main character with a personality that isn't paper thin, I'd rather recommend "Defiance of the Fall" or "He who fights with monsters".
Not buying any of the author's books ever again.
