Publisher's Summary

Ten years ago he killed my son. Today I married him.

Ten years ago my darling son Jesse was murdered and our perfect family was destroyed. My strong, handsome boy, so full of life, became a memory, a photo I carried with me everywhere.

But today I’m finally close to finding happiness again. My ash-blonde hair has been curled into ringlets. Carefully placed white flowers frame my delicate features. The small, drab chapel has been prettied up with white satin, and there are tiny red hearts scattered on the small table where I will soon sign the register with my new husband.

The man who killed my son.

My friends and family can’t understand it. My neighbours whisper in the street whenever I walk past. How can I love a man like Tom?

They don’t really know me at all....

The most enthralling psychological thriller you’ll listen to this year from the best-selling author K.L. Slater. If you love The Wife Between Us or Gone Girl, you’ll be totally hooked on The Marriage.

a bit tedious

some books are better read instead of listened to... this book jumps between two main women characters and different time lines. The voice was the same so having to check the chapter titles

Don’t waste your credits on this one

The performance of the narrator was ok and that is about it for this story. I listened all the way to the end hopeful that some twist would be ahead, however, no such luck. This story is boring with nothing to keep you interested.

Master play of perspectives

The author and narrator did a wonderful play of making us readers/listeners suspicious and annoyed of each character at each chapter. It's amazing how perspective can twist "reality" and how the same facts told from another point of view point to different conclusions and judgment. This book was even better than The Widow by same author which I listened to just before this one.

An uncompelling soap opera.

The narration was fairly good, but the characters were unlikable and unrealistic and the plot was meandering and felt pointless. I read the first few chapters and then skipped to the end without feeling that I missed anything. The ending expositions explained it all.

Pleasantly surprised

I enjoyed listening to this book. I was on the fence about ordering it, but then it came up as an Included book in my membership. It kept me guessing for a bit and it all came together in the end.

One of the best books in the genre I have read !

Well narrated and easy to follow chapters between the characters. Suspenseful and twisting plot that I thoroughly enjoyed and was completely absorbed in hour after hour !
Loved it !

Keeps you guessing

First impression not great, but stuck with it and so glad I did!! A true mystery, it keeps you wondering who is "good" or "bad" right up until the very end of the book. Excellent character development, and written in a manner that will change your first impressions of the characters over time. Incredible.

Note that this book is more about perceptions of the characters, and involves going deep into their thought processes.

Overall, I quite enjoyed this audiobook and listened to it while doing my regular chores and in bed before going to sleep.

Decent

Nothing exceptional in this book. It was an interesting, but predictable listen. The editing was a little sloppy. Halfway through Jill starts calling her husband Richard which confused me since his name Robert.

Just why

I like a good thriller, this wasn't a thriller, this was a drama, no let's call it what it was a soap opera. No intensity, no real story, no twists. I almost stopped listening it was so bland. Save your credit if your looking to do anything but use it to help you sleep.

Just ok

There was nothing overly special about this story. The twist was decent but other than that, it wasn’t all that exciting. It did hold my interest enough to finish it so it wasn’t a waste of a credit. I just wish it had more WOW to it.

predictable

I have always liked K L Slater, had high expectation for this one.
I am kind of disappointed, this one is different from her other novels, not as exciting.
Lucy Price-Lewis, as always, performed exceptionally, amazing narration.

Slater has written better..

The Marriage by KL Slater was a mediocre psychological thriller. The 'psychological thriller' part took a long time to get started, and I started to wonder if this element would ever present itself.

Two moms, each with a son the same age, are best of friends. Their friendship abruptly ends when their sons get into an altercation which results in the death of one, and the manslaughter charge of another. Ten years later, the convicted son marries his late best friend's mother, regardless of their past and their twenty plus years age difference.

The story is fairly absurd and the ending is not the greatest, but Lucy Price-Lewis does a phenomenal job of narration as per usual, and Slater is a talented author for this genre so I would still recommend the book.

Meh

Not good. Just meh. Don’t recommend wasting your money. The narrator was okay but the book, not so much.

Interesting premise but so Slow..

I enjoyed the performance from the narrator, she made the story worth it in the end. However, I was waiting for the book to get to the interesting part and I waited.. and waited. It was a struggle to not give up and start a new book but once I start a book, I finish it. After all was said and done, it was an okay book.
