Story
Death is reporter Jack McEvoy's beat: his calling, his obsession. But this time, death brings McEvoy the story he never wanted to write - and the mystery he desperately needs to solve. A serial killer of unprecedented savagery and cunning is at large. His targets: homicide cops, each haunted by a murder case he couldn't crack. The killer's calling card: a quotation from the works of Edgar Allan Poe. His latest victim is McEvoy's own brother. And his last...may be McEvoy himself.

Story
Haller is a Lincoln Lawyer, a criminal defense pro who operates out of the backseat of his Lincoln Town Car, to defend clients at the bottom of the legal food chain. It's no wonder that he is despised by cops, prosecutors, and even some of his own clients. But an investigator is murdered for getting too close to the truth and Haller quickly discovers that his search for innocence has taken him face to face with a kind of evil as pure as a flame.

Story
The man most hated by the LAPD - a black lawyer who has made his name by bringing lawsuits alleging racism and brutality by police officers - has been found murdered on the eve of a high-profile trial. The list of suspects includes half the police force. And Harry Bosch is the detective chosen to head the investigation. The political dangers of the case are huge. If it's not investigated fairly, the public outcry could make the Rodney King riots look tame. But a full investigation will take Bosch into the ugliest corners of law enforcement.

A once up-and-coming detective, she's been given this beat as punishment after filing a sexual harassment complaint against a supervisor. But one night she catches two cases she doesn't want to part with: the brutal beating of a prostitute left for dead in a parking lot and the killing of a young woman in a nightclub shooting. Ballard is determined not to give up at dawn.

Publisher's Summary
The Narrows: A Harry Bosch Novel, Book 10: Booktrack Edition adds an immersive musical soundtrack to your audiobook listening experience!*
Booktrack editions are essentially a new genre of digital storytelling entertainment. Music and ambient audio are added to complement and enhance the audiobook experience. It is a synchronized movie-style soundtrack that complements the narration of existing audiobooks; the tempo and rhythm of the score harmonize with action, dialogue and the characters' emotional arcs.
FBI agent Rachel Walling finally gets the call she's dreaded for years, the one that tells her the Poet has surfaced. She has never forgotten the serial killer who wove lines of poetry in his hideous crimes - and apparently he has not forgotten her.
Former LAPD detective Harry Bosch gets a call, too - from the widow of an old friend. Her husband's death seems natural, but his ties to the hunt for the Poet make Bosch dig deep. Arriving at a derelict spot in the California desert where the feds are unearthing bodies, Bosch joins forces with Rachel. Now the two are at odds with the FBI...and squarely in the path of the Poet, who will lead them on a wicked ride out of the heat, through the narrows of evil, and into a darkness all his own...
*Booktrack is an immersive format that pairs traditional audiobook narration to complementary music. The tempo and rhythm of the score are in perfect harmony with the action and characters throughout the audiobook. Gently playing in the background, the music never overpowers or distracts from the narration, so listeners can enjoy every minute. When you purchase this Booktrack edition, you receive the exact narration as the traditional audiobook available, with the addition of music throughout.

Remake with Distracting background noise
This is Book 10. It is a re-release. The audio background music and noise is to loud. At times very annoying. I don’t mind some sound effects. But this is the whole book. It’s distracting from the story. Thank goodness with Audible I can return.

Another well spun Bosch novel
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
YES
Who was your favorite character and why?
Bosch
Which scene was your favorite?
When Harry recognizes that the brothel dwelling suspect is the Poet
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
1 Road trip - YES
Any additional comments?
This is a classic Connelly offering that weaves together characters from several story lines, and rewards faithful followers with back story from each. The more familiar you are with Harry Bosch, Rachel Walling, Terry McCaleb ,and even the Poet - the greater the satisfaction with this novel.

Awful background noises
Would you try another book from Michael Connelly and/or Len Cariou?
The book would have been much better without all the background noise which made it difficult to listen to. Get rid of the music and noise and it would be a much better book.

The background music made it impossible to enjoy the story
I could not concentrate on the story because the background music was too distracting. I gave up after 5 chapters and returned the book for a refund. One of the pleasures of reading, or, in this case, listening to a book is to mentally picturing the setting and interaction between chapters. The background music and sound effects diminished rather than enhanced this experience. I could not rate the story higher because I was not able get very far into the story.

Took a star off for the production
WHY would you add sound effects (running water, a door opening) and music to an audiobook!!!!!!! It was very annoying. That said, the story is still pure Connelly and I enjoyed it.
