À propos de cet audio
Game of Thrones meets Gladiator in this debut epic fantasy about a world caught in an eternal war and the young man who will become his people's only hope for survival.
The Omehi people have been fighting an unwinnable fight for almost 200 years. Their society has been built around war and only war. The lucky ones are born gifted. One in every 2,000 women has the power to call down dragons. One in every 100 men is able to magically transform himself into a bigger, stronger, faster killing machine. Everyone else is fodder, destined to fight and die in the endless war.
Young, giftless Tau knows all this, but he has a plan of escape. He's going to get himself injured, get out early, and settle down to marriage, children, and land. Only, he doesn't get the chance.
Those closest to him are brutally murdered, and his grief swiftly turns to anger. Fixated on revenge, Tau dedicates himself to an unthinkable path. He'll become the greatest swordsman to ever live, a man willing to die 100,000 times for the chance to kill the three who betrayed him.
The Rage of Dragons launches a stunning and powerful debut epic-fantasy series.

Minalan gave up a promising career as a professional warmage to live the quiet life of a village spellmonger in the remote mountain valley of Boval. It was a peaceful, beautiful little fief, far from the dangerous feudal petty squabbles of the Five Duchies, on the world of Callidore. There were cows. Lots of cows. And cheese. For six months things went well: He found a quaint little shop, he befriended the local lord, the village folk loved him, he found a sharp young apprentice to help out, and, best yet, he met a comely young widow with the prettiest eyes.

Ce que les critiques en disent
"A refreshingly brutal and imaginative tale of survival and revenge. Evan Winter's battles are visceral, bloody masterpieces, and Tau's climb from exiled Lesser to legendary warrior is earned in a way few writers could hope to match." (David Dalglish, author of the Shadowdance Series)
"Winter's debut will draw strong comparisons to George R.R. Martin and Brandon Sanderson, and the strong African influences and ties create a singular, exciting epic with intriguing characters and culture. Readers will be clamoring for the next installment." (Library Journal, starred review)
"Wow. This book hits the ground with stunning action and danger, and it barely lets up as the pages fly by. I loved the African-influence culture, the unique use of dragons and demons, the complex martial and class hierarchy, and it has a magic system unlike anything I've seen before. What a terrific set up for a series!" (David Anthony Durham, author of The Acacia Trilogy)

Thrilling Action
THE RAGE OF DRAGONS is a book that takes some time to get into. But once you commit and look past the action scenes (more on those later), you are swept into a fantastically built, rich world, with intense characters, unique magic, and explosive tension.
The story follows Tau, a young warrior who begins a path of vengeance when his father is killed in front of him. Once Tau begins this journey, there is quite literally nothing he won’t do to see it through. He becomes a frighteningly skilled warrior, hero, and in some ways, a leader. While it was difficult for me to connect with him in the beginning, by the end, it was fascinating to see how so much anger and drive changed him. Tau is not shy about violence and watching other characters react to it around him made for some spectacular tension and complex character motives.
Action is an enormous part of this book. The scenes make it a little hard to connect with the characters at first, since the pace makes it difficult for characters to really “be” themselves. That said, the action is incredibly well written. It’s visceral, thrilling, and is like watching an action movie.
The world building is steeped in culture and lore that demands attention but also provides a wonderful level of immersion. This is an exciting, dangerous world that I would love to see more of.
THE RAGE OF DRAGONS lives up to its hype and intensity. The last few pages in particular were thrilling and shocking and have left me eager for more. This is a book fans of high-paced, adrenalized action fantasy will love. Check it out!

Mesmerizing
Winter's pace, descriptions, and action would be enough to make this thoroughly enjoyable. but he also adds depth, character development, and timely thematic nuance sufficient to make this brilliant instead of just great. on top of that, Onayemi's performance is flawless. absolutely recommended reading.

Fantastic story with some really clever perspectives employed by Mr. Winter and unbelievably well performed by Mr. Onayemi. Absolutely can not wait for the next team up!

Good
Overall it's a good story. I don't necessarily have nitpicks or criticisms. It's very engaging. I struggle to avoid comparing it to competing plotlines cause in a sense it doesn't hold up to those (nor should it). But the lore/world/culture is quite different than what I've read before which makes this quite interesting/fun to listen too.

Worth sticking with
From the very beginning I knew I was in for a treat. There is not nearly enough fantasy that doesn't focus on Magic Europe but this book stays well away from the tropes you've grown bored with. the characters are lovely, the fight scenes are swift and brutal and the world being built already feels like it has a depth I can't wait to explore.
To the title of my review, some of the names and a few terms caused me to stumble a bit, which can happen with a Non-European inspired fantasy but I urge everyone to read, pay attention and know that you will not be disappointed.
