Publisher's Summary

From the author of the blockbuster best seller The Game: a shockingly personal, surprisingly relatable, brutally honest memoir in which the celebrated dating expert confronts the greatest challenge he has ever faced: monogamy and fidelity.

Neil Strauss became famous to millions around the world as the author of The Game, a funny and slyly instructive account of how he transformed himself from a scrawny, insecure nerd into the ultraconfident, ultrasuccessful "pickup artist" known as Style. The book jump-started the international "seduction community" and made Strauss a household name - revered or notorious - among single men and women alike.

But the experience of writing The Game also transformed Strauss into a man who could have what every man wants: the ability to date - and/or have casual sex with - almost every woman he met. The results were heady, to be sure. But they also conditioned him to view the world as a kind of constant parade of women, sex, and opportunity - with intimacy and long-term commitment taking a backseat.

That is until he met the woman who forced him to choose between herself and the parade. The choice was not only difficult, it was wrenching. It forced him deep into his past, to confront not only the moral dimensions of his pickup lifestyle but also a wrenching mystery in his childhood that shaped the man he became. It sent him into extremes of behavior that exposed just how conflicted his life had become. And it made him question everything he knew about himself, and about the way men and women live with and without each other.

He would never be the same again.

Searingly honest, compulsively listenable, this new book may have the same effect on you.

Thought the book would end 4 hours in, I was wrong

This was a fascinating book and made me rethink some of the things that happen in my childhood. However, when I first listened to the book, about 4 hours in (25% into the book), I thought the story was coming to the end and the lesson was learned (and I would have been happy with it ending there). Boy was I wrong! The book just kept getting better and better. #Audible1

A beautiful story from the real world

I've greatly enjoyed this amazing book. It gives an astonishing overview of love, relationships and fantasies made real based on living examples. Some folks think that people who stay in lifetime relationships can't live it otherwise. Fisrt, here you'll get to know how it actually is. Second, Neil Straus is a different story. At some point, he was engaged in all sorts of open, casual, whatsoever relationships, where beautiful women were more of an everyday sight than an unreachable dream. Still, the book will uncover the evolution of Neil's mindset, and were he arrives. I recommend the book to both men and women as it gives insights (at times painful) on how we choose our partners and how we persist on acting immature because of the traumati experiences of our childhood. Thank you, Neil, for your work, and for the truth.

A wild ride

Neil Strauss has never failed to grab my attention and hold it hostage until the very last sentence. This book was incredible and I can't wait to go through it again some day. #Audible1

Thank you, Neil.

The stuff I've always wondered about and been distracted by, answered by someone I've come to trust and am inspired by.
I loved The Game, but didn't really put it to work very well. I was absolutely enthralled by Emergency, and that has become a significant part of my life (it actually always was, I just never realized it, but now I'm turning it into a revenue stream). The Truth is an unbelievable cap to a trilogy of life-changing books and the lifetime it took to compile them.
I can't thank you enough for putting into words the things I have always thought, always wondered about and always been uncommitted because of.
I'm now living my committments and I'm grateful. The context of a men's team I used to lead, now leads my life because I trust YOUR experiences abd YOU, enough to put them behind me..."Commit fully, Live free!" Thanks buddy. Much love.

A painful journey for soul-searching

I spent a whole month to finish listening the 16 hours audio and found it very depress.
Perhaps everyone has a wounded child inside. I guess a more interesting personality gets a more wounded aspect. Maybe it's not to find a perfect match to fill in our wounded holes. It would be too hard for them to fulfill this task. It's to develop ourselves to be a healthy funtioning adult to protect the child inside so that we could be strong enough to grow a healthy relationship with the person we love.
