I wanted it to be better.
I really loved all my VC. Andrews books as a teen to adult. I can read them over and over and still love them like I never have.
The ghostwriter who took over really didn't do enough research on the previous series that VC Andrews actually wrote. The style doesn't match, and the writing is redundant.
If you are a true fan, please don't buy this book. I would love more books in VC Andrews' style. I will keep trying, but I'm losing hope. This is the third I've tried since VC Andrews passed.

What happened to VC Andrews?
This book was highly disappointing. I grew up reading these books and they always had a twist, mystery, intrigue but this was as boring as they come. Total waste.

Loved the narrator
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Energetic voice but did not sound as if she was on speed. Also did not try to fake a male voice
If you could rename The Unwelcomed Child, what would you call it?

Wish it would continue
I really enjoyed The Unwelcomed Child. The narration was superb; all the voices were certainly imaginative. I really learned to love Elle and would love to see what happens in her future. How anyone who like VC Andrew books was disappointed, I’ll never know 🤷♀️

Disappointing
At first the book had me hooked. Then it turned into predictable book writing. All the characters end up being this wonderful people- So not VC Andrew's. The performance was mediocre and I wanted to like this book so much. I'm sad I wasted my time. The ending felt rushed.

Not much here...
What would have made The Unwelcomed Child better?
200 less pages!
Has The Unwelcomed Child turned you off from other books in this genre?
Not at all. There is something very gothic and old fashioned about the way V. C. Andrews's books play out, even if it isn't really her anymore. It's a modern-ish story with a 100 year old feel if that makes sense. It's quite charming!
What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?
There was not much I cared for in the performance. Ms. Cottle sounded like a high schooler being asked to read aloud in English class. There was very little inflection and everything seemed to run together in a monotone. The voices, while uninteresting, were at least infused with some decent acting, which saved things somewhat, but over all, I'd have to say, boring, boring, boring. I'd probably not listen to anything narrated by her again. However, the material could also have been the problem. Perhaps she didn't really have writing that would let her stretch her wings.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Unwelcomed Child?
Everything written under the V. C. Andrews name in the last 15 years seems full of boring details that don't advance the story. Series could be condensed into half their length and this book alone should have been a novella. I couldn't care less about the long conversations about nothing that Elle has with Mason and Claudine. The prologue and first chapter are nearly interchangeable and cover the same information over and over and over. Perhaps physically reading the book would have helped, but the narrator just made me extra bored. Nothing picked up and got interesting until the last handful of chapters. I don't feel the payoff really made the whole book worth listening to. The older books are MUCH better!!

This story is truly amazing as are all VC. Andrews books.
My favorite part was when El and her friends went to Albany to see her father.
The narrative was well read

Refund??
I LOVE the Audible app. I love listening to good books almost as much as reading them. I may be a narrator snob… I’m not sure, but if the narrator isn’t appealing to me, the book is hard to listen to. This narrator was the worst I have EVER listened to on any app. I just don’t… I finished the book because I’m no quitter(🤣😳😅), but every listen felt like I was punishing myself. Even if the narration had been fabulous, the plot was just bland…. This is a definite SKIP.
