Story
There is nothing more essential to our health and well-being than breathing. Yet, as a species, humans have lost the ability to breathe correctly, with grave consequences. Journalist James Nestor travels the world to figure out what went wrong and how to fix it. The answers aren’t found in pulmonology labs, as we might expect, but in the muddy digs of ancient burial sites, secret Soviet facilities, New Jersey choir schools, and the smoggy streets of São Paulo. Nestor tracks down men and women exploring the hidden science behind ancient breathing practices.

But what if we could regain some of our lost evolutionary strength by simulating the environmental conditions of our forbears? Investigative journalist and anthropologist Scott Carney takes up the challenge to find out: Can we hack our bodies and use the environment to stimulate our inner biology?

Most of us still live by the motto, “No pain, no gain.” But this approach to life is actually a prescription for fear, frustration, and self-doubt. Much of what we learn about success is based on the pain/gain idea: in essence, work harder, be more persistent, and develop greater willpower. The New Psycho-Cybernetics formula is anything but painful. It will allow you to achieve all your goals, faster, easier, and with less strain than you ever thought possible.

Publisher's Summary
The only definitive work authored by Wim Hof on his powerful method for realizing our physical and spiritual potential.
Narrated by Olympic and world champion short track speed skater Apolo Anton Ohno.
“This method is very simple, very accessible, and endorsed by science. Anybody can do it, and there is no dogma, only acceptance. Only freedom.” (Wim Hof)
Wim Hof has a message for each of us: “You can literally do the impossible. You can overcome disease, improve your mental health and physical performance, and even control your physiology so you can thrive in any stressful situation.” With The Wim Hof Method, this trailblazer of human potential shares a method that anyone can use - young or old, sick or healthy - to supercharge their capacity for strength, vitality, and happiness.
Wim has become known as “The Iceman” for his astounding physical feats, such as spending hours in freezing water and running barefoot marathons over deserts and ice fields. Yet his most remarkable achievement is not any record-breaking performance - it is the creation of a method that thousands of people have used to transform their lives.
In his gripping and passionate style, Wim shares his story and the three pillars of his method:
- Breath - His unique practices to change your body chemistry, infuse yourself with energy, and focus your mind
- Cold - Safe, controlled, shock-free practices for using cold exposure to enhance your cardiovascular system and awaken your body’s untapped strength
- Mindset - Build your willpower, inner clarity, sensory awareness, and innate joyfulness in the miracle of living
Wim Hof is a man on a mission: to transform the way we live by reminding us of our true power and purpose. “This is how we will change the world, one soul at a time,” Wim says. “We alter the collective consciousness by awakening to our own boundless potential. We are limited only by the depth of our imagination and the strength of our conviction.”
PLEASE NOTE: When you purchase this title, the accompanying PDF will be available in your Audible Library along with the audio.
What the critics say
“Wim Hof is a man of extraordinary talents who demonstrates great control of involuntary physiological functions, developed by learning to tolerate exposure to cold and by working with the breath. He has taught the Wim Hof Method to many people, and in this book he explains it in detail. Recommended reading for everyone interested in human potentials.” (Andrew Weil, MD, director of the University of Arizona Andrew Weil Center for Integrative Medicine, author of 8 Weeks to Optimum Health)
“Wim Hof has inspired millions of people to use just their bodies and breath to heat, then heal, themselves of a laundry list of chronic illnesses. Dubious, you say? I certainly thought so, until I discovered the real scientific research from real scientists around the world proving these ‘impossible’ claims were in fact true. This book is a valuable guide to anyone looking to take better control of the health, heat, and untapped potential locked away within us all.” (James Nestor, New York Times best-selling author of Breath)
“Wim Hof’s program has become an essential part of my daily regimen for self-care and grounding. I warmly recommend it.” (Gabor Maté, MD, author of When the Body Says No)

Not as inspirational as I had hoped
Very repetitive for me, not sure what I was expecting but book really only just felt like a ad for something else. Not much depth to it so it felt like a infomercial, I know Wim must be a extremely deep man from the passionate way he lives his life, but I did not feel a connection to him from this book. Still interested in learning more about his method just didn’t find what I had hoped from the book.

Honnest evaluation
Before listening to the book, I took a look at this comment section, I wasnt sure if it was a good book.
After it, what I can tell is :
Narration is close to perfect, the intensity is right on spot, it help me doesnt get distract.
There is a bit of repetition but not that much.
The content of the book is really great. I knew Him a little before this book and I wanted to know more, know more about the point of view of the science, and I've been serve.

Inspiring and Motivating
This is a wonderful and easy listen that explains where he came from and everything along the way. I have been interested in the Wim Hof Method for a while now, and this only opened up my curiosity even more. Have just recently started doing the breathing technique and will be adding in the cold showers next! If you're on the fence about this book, get it! You won't regret it!

Disapointment
The book repeat itself over and over. Seems like an ad for the wil hoff method. I believe in the method, but I hoped the book would deep dive more into the method. It’s more about storys about people who used the method and benefited from it…

Apollo Anton Ohno, just NO!
Where do I begin? 1) Apollo, please never narrate again. You sound like a dad trying too hard to make a bedtime story entertaining with your excessive intonations. You make it very difficult to listen. 2) It’s incredible repetitive. The whole book could of been cut down to half. To the bright editor who decided to keep the rambling going, kudos to bringing on a snooze fest. 3) The forward button will be your best friend.

book is great, narrator could be better
I found it really intense and not at all a chill relaxing vibe that I get from wim. I understand no one is Wim, but the narrator could tone it down a bit, slow down the pace of his reading, especially when rhyming off the instructions. I felt stressed or anxious while listening. I will read it in its paper form perhaps. to experience it at my own pace.
