• Should the US Government Forgive Student Debt?
    May 22 2024

Forgiving student debt is great for people-- who wouldn't want more money? That extra money can be used for education (ironically), childcare, or for other spending -- including sushi or sneakers or houseplants-- that spurs the economy.

The problem is, it doesn't spur it much-- especially not compared to inflation, which is the other side of the inflation. Price inflation and dollar inflation will both hit the economy, and as everyone interacts in the US economy, including most other countries around the world, the net result may be more harm than good.

    May 22 2024

The UN Security Council is helps to maintain stability around the world, including intervening in civil wars, to spread human rights, and to enforce global norms of behavior. Yet any decision it takes must make it through the Veto Power of the 5 Permanent Nations—the US, China, Russia, the UK and France—the Allied winners of World War 2 and 5 of the world’s 9 nuclear powers. The world has changed a lot since 1945, and these 5 nations hardly represent the majority of the world.
