Il senso di angoscia e paura è presente in tutto il racconto. Il protagonista, che è anche il narratore, sposa una donna molto intelligente di nome Morella.

L'opera fa parte del progetto "Radiovisione, scena e retroscena radiofonica" diretto da Sergio Ferrentino. "Un radiodramma, a leggerlo, non sa di niente, bisogna ascoltarlo, o meglio ancora vederlo": così è stato allestito al Teatro Gobetti di Torino e il pubblico, dotato di cuffie, ha potuto spiare in diretta attori e rumoristi in scena.
