Sur un télésiège de la station suédoise d’Åre, dans les montagnes du Jämtland, on découvre un corps gelé. Dans la neige, une écharpe en laine... Par une belle journée de juillet, une foule impatiente assiste au départ du Tour de Gotland, la plus importante régate d'Europe du nord. Faute de surveillance, certains jeux dégénèrent en harcèlement. Et lorsqu'un enfant disparaît, la panique s'empare du camp. Accident ? Kidnapping ? Ou... un jeu qui aurait mal tourné ? Dépêché sur les lieux, l'inspecteur Thomas Andreasson et ses collègues explorent toutes les pistes.

Crime politique ou vengeance personnelle masquée ? L'inspecteur Thomas Andreasson n'a pas le temps de répondre qu'un nouveau meurtre a lieu.
