The 8th Species

Born with special abilities, N8 and the rest of “the children” have lived underground their entire lives, where they’ve been led to believe there was a nuclear war that left the Earth’s surface uninhabitable. The scientists chose what information they were given, what TV shows and movies they could watch, as well as what they were allowed to eat. It was only a matter of time before he and the others started questioning their very existence.

G8 Children and the others are adjusting and learning to live freely outside of the underground bunker that they were once led to believe was normal life. They’re trying to find jobs as they scrounge for food and clothing, although the town is nice enough to help them whenever possible. But they’re determined to do it on their own, for the first time ever. When a fire at Docenti Labs sent everyone running, Ingrid Shyne was told to wipe the computers and get out, but she couldn’t leave the babies behind. How could anyone?

The Children are settling into their new lives, but unexpected expenses are piling up with the babies’ milk and diapers, and the electricity bill on the rise as the brunt of winter inundates them. Everyone is doing what they can to pitch in, working extra shifts and doing whatever it takes to keep their heads above financial waters, to the point where K8 is contemplating using her ability to split in two to do double the work. But how much longer can they keep it up? When K8 is approached by a publisher to tell the Childrens’ story, she’s hesitant to trust the guy, but she likes the idea.
