As you begin to read or listen to this book, you will become familiar with all the gods and goddesses of Chinese culture. The historical context will become clear, as well as the institutions, the law, the rules about sexuality, marriage, and children, and so much more. Towards the end of the book, you’ll also learn about Confucianism, Monism, Taoism, Buddhism, and other dominating religious or spiritual paths that have been common in China.

Carly is a girl who likes adventure, but after her last journey on the water she’s ready for less soggy terrain. Sadly, his plan went off the rails immediately, when an exploding volcano left a small, injured baby dinosaur in the path of destruction. Now he needs to choose: Does he risk his life to find the baby’s family, or does he abandon the helpless creature and pursue his nice, safe adventure?

Since Bobby liked history and Carly didn’t, going on an adventure to Ancient Egypt seemed like a safe compromise. Carly just wants to play pirates, but her brother Bobby says that everyone knows girls can't be pirates. Carly stomps off, only to find a magical cave where she sails off on her own pirate adventure. But being a pirate is harder than Carly imagined. She’ll have to figure out how to keep her boat afloat, find the treasure, and defeat a rival gang of pirates, all by herself (and a few of her stuffed bears).
