I'm a little torn on this one for a rating, as it was a masterful piece of work in terms of writing and character development, however I felt it was a bit too long. Certain scenes didn’t add much to the progression of the story and had me losing focus, requiring backtracking and relistening only to realize I hadn’t actually missed anything. Had those extra scenes been trimmed down, this might have landed at a full 5 stars for me.
The overall story and plot, and the way it's woven together, is incredible! Intense with a touch of suspense without being fully suspense-focused. Just keep in mind that every single one of these characters is excessively complex and broken. Like… every. single. one.
The history between the two MCs, having previously had an online smex-site relationship, crashes into their new reality as step-siblings, and they both dive headfirst into revenge. The deceptions, lies, obsession… it’s messy and it's hot. The bullying is VERY intense, though, so if that’s even a mild trigger for you, skip this one because it is harsh.
There are many high-spice scenes, including some dub-con elements, pushing this book into a heavy heat level. But again, this is a dark taboo step-sibling romance so only go in if that doesn’t bother you.
I did this one via audio, narrated by Grayson Owens and Angelina Rocca. And although I mentioned zoning out at times, I want to be clear: that had NOTHING to do with the narrators. Both did a spectacular job capturing the grit and vengeful energy pulsing through this story.
