Description

Simon has spent the last six months hunting Incarnations and has begun to realize that his power alone won’t be enough to stop a true enemy.

Leah is queen over a nation of refugees, driven from their homes by the fury of Territories gone mad.

Alin rules his city with an iron fist, imposing the virtues of Elysia on an imperfect population.

Now, the three must stand united as the balance of the world shifts once more. A greater threat looms, and it has made its presence known....

The Incarnations are missing.

Good end to the trilogy

The 3 books were good. I just wish they explained why the bad guy was incarnate was that powerful. I wished the main character would stay independent at the end.

Best Book In The Trilogy

Chris Wight's action-driven culmination of a captivating chronicle is most satisfying. Fortunately, the author recognizes that the real star of the 'Traveler's Gate Trilogy' is the fascinating "Traveller"/"Territory" magic system dynamic.. and he imaginatively plays on many of the interactions that the system implies (ambition, ego, benevolence, and conflict, for example). The result is a surprisingly cerebral adventure. In this book in particular, Wight also strives to match that aspect with well-scripted combat involving hard-won offensive/defensive/summoning magical powers.. and largely succeeds. True, some of the action is cartoonish (like a series of Marvel superhero fights), but I enjoyed it.
Also somewhat unfortunately, Wight is overly fascinated with betrayal: I get it - if some presumably ethical character commits treason - it's a surprise that makes the plot more interesting for readers/listeners ("Well.. *that* was unexpected).. but if *everyone* backstabs EVERY TIME - the duplicity becomes expected (there is no surprise.. we knew it was coming). Wight's "twists" come across as routine.
Regardless, 'City Of Light' is the most successful in the series at balancing action designed to satisfy fun-seeking adrenaline junkies and intrigue for more mature fantasy literature afficianados.

The excellent narration from Travis Baldree continues in this installment.. and contributes to my favorable impression of the book. His voice-acting is occasionally over-the-top, but generally truly praiseworthy. If you have a choice between text copies of the trilogy and this audiobook version.. take this one every time.

This book would be utterly confusing without having listened to Books One & Two (it has very little standalone merit), but if you are following the series, it's excellent. I am thrilled that I was able to get this 9/10 star fantasy novel as a 'Plus' option.. because any fan of thought-provoking fantasy fiction would be justified in spending a Credit on it.

Good Trilogy

Not bad, not 10/10 but pretty good. Left an open ending for it to continue, lots of leads and good characters. I would continue if there's more

the series kept improving

Loved this book. In order of preference, definitly book 3 then 2 then 1. The first book - while good - was at times confusing as much about the world was not explained so you were often trying to figure out what was going on while also wrapping your head around the names of territories, cities, characters, etc,. The second book provided much needed clarity. The third was wonderful. Well developed characters and storylines.
