In Rewire, renowned psychotherapist Richard O’Connor, PhD, reveals why our bad habits die so hard. How many self-help books are written by authors whose biggest success is selling self-help books? Three Simple Steps is different. Despite stock market crashes, dot-com busts, and the specter of recession, the author started a virtual company from home, using a few thousand dollars of his savings. A few years later, without ever hiring an employee or leaving his home office, he sold it for more than $100 million. As the economy slipped into another free fall, he did this again with a company in a different field. He accomplished this through no particular genius.

The ancient Toltecs believed that life, as we perceive it, is a dream. We each live in our own personal dream, and these come together to form the dream of the planet, or the world in which we live. Problems arise when our perception of the dream becomes clouded with negativity, drama, and judgment (of ourselves and others), because it's in these moments of suffering that we have forgotten that we are the architects of our own reality and we have the power to change our dream if we choose.

Description
You don't have to live overwhelmed by stuff - you can get rid of clutter for good! Decluttering expert Dana White identifies the emotional challenges that make it difficult to declutter and provides workable solutions to break through and make progress.
While the world seems to be in love with the idea of tiny houses and minimalism, many of us simply can't purge it all and start from nothing. Yet a home with too much stuff is difficult to maintain, so where do we begin? Add in paralyzing emotional attachments and constant life challenges, and it can feel almost impossible to make real decluttering progress.
In Decluttering at the Speed of Life, decluttering expert and author Dana White identifies the mindsets and emotional challenges that make it difficult to declutter. In her signature humorous approach, she provides workable solutions to break through these struggles and get clutter out - for good!
Not only does Dana provide strategies, but she dives deep into how to implement them, no matter the listener's clutter level or emotional resistance to decluttering. She helps identify procrasticlutter - the stuff that will get done eventually so it doesn't seem urgent - as well as how to make progress when there's no time to declutter.
In Decluttering at the Speed of Life, Dana’s chapters cover:
- Why you need this book (You know why)
- Your unique home
- Decluttering in the midst of real life
- Change your mind, change your home
- Breaking through your decluttering delusions
- Working it out room by room
- Helping others declutter
As long as we're living and breathing, new clutter will appear. The good news is that by following Dana’s advice, decluttering will get easier, become more natural, and require significantly fewer hours, less emotional bandwidth, and little to no sweat to keep going.

Amazing!!
I love this book. I think it's my most listened to book on Audible, I've been finding I end up listening to it once every other month or so to reset my outlook on getting my home together.
The way Dana lays out her system for decluttering is simple, easy to follow, and most importantly, gets results. I truly believe this is because Dana fully admits she is not, by nature, an organized person. She fully admits that she is a recovering slob, and that is exactly what I (a fellow, trying-to-recover slob) needed.
Dana addresses a multitude of problems and has a solution to them, just be open to listening to the explanations the whole way through, there's a lot of tough love in this book. There were a few spots in the book where I definitely got a little wound up, but listening to Dana explain everything the entire way through has definitely helped me change my ways.
After listening to the first few chapters and getting the method down, I went about decluttering the entryway to my home. In 2 hours I made more progress there than many, many previous attempts, where I would sometimes spend the entire weekend trying to figure out how to manage it, and my entryway is now beautiful! I'm so excited to keep up the momentum of decluttering my home, and I truly could not have done it without this book.

Entertaining and helpful.
The narrator is very easy to listen to. I played this on bluetooth headphones or a speaker while doing dishes, folding laundry, or decluttering! 😁 She is realistic and eye opening. Great if you have lots, or a little clutter. Lifestyle changer for sure. Let her advise soak into your everyday choices on belongings. I listened a year ago and will start it over today while I get cracking on house work.

This is, indeed, real help for real life decluttering!!
I love this book! I highly recommend it.
You will not regret getting it!
I’ve read more than a handful of books on this subject, and this the only book that really helped me and got me going.
Dana gives you strategies on how to deal with your clutter and walks you through them, while acknowledging how hard it is to do it and how you’re feeling throughout the process.
This book validates how you feel, and the fact that Dana shares her experience and recognizes what she went through, helps you realize you are not the only one with such a problem and feelings. You don’t feel “crazy”. 😉
This is the only book that I’ve found addresses how hard it is for some of us to declutter and acknowledges the real feelings of decluttering: guilt, declutter paralysis, frustration, anxiety, fear, grief, avoidance and denial.
The feelings of guilt, of having so much stuff, wasted money and energy, feeling like a failure because of it and for not being able to deal with your clutter. Frustration, anxiety and fear every time you see the clutter and sometimes decluttering paralysis where you don’t know what to do or where to start. It all seems overwhelming. It deals with your feelings of grief -of what you could’ve done with this things, or grief of what you were or could’ve been, career-wise. The feelings of denial and avoidance of clutter.
Enjoy the book and good luck decluttering!

Just. Wow.
I can’t even tell you how many decluttering books I’ve read/listened to/“re-read”... and still nothing ever really sunk in or “took”..and You’d think if you’ve read one, you’ve read them all...but this one really is different. I could *so* relate to this author-I, too, am a ‘creative’ and always see the *potential* in things...things that other people would just be like “wth?” And all these dreams of what I “could potentially do”or had “been meaning to do”-but (duh) even years later “never DID”..yet I was collecting stuff ‘just in case I did’...ugh) The container rule? {MIND BOWN} ... I have tons of audiobooks I never finished (I know, shocker!) ..but really, THIS ONE? I Read it twice in a row and I guarantee that won’t be the last time. TRULY..you won’t be disappointed ..it’s a must read for anyone needing to declutter and not have a bigger mess than when you started!

I wish I had this book 40 years ago
I've had a huge problem with clutter since I was a teenager. I had a hard time throwing things away for a variety of reasons. Sometimes the clutter would paralyze me. My mom tried to help me to get organized and would encourage me to throw a few things out, but the emphasis was on organization of my clutter, not decluttering. This book makes it crystal clear that organizing is not as powerful as decluttering. I now have a once-a-week de-cluttering afternoon along with my five minute pickups each day. I really wish I had this book 40 years ago. Best audiobook I've listened to in 3 years.

This is the most helpful book/audiobook that I have ever purchased! I love Dana’s sense of humor in approaching such a sensitive subject for me. She is here in the trenches with us fighting her way through the mini mountains of stuff that choke our homes, our family, and our psyche. Her straight forward and easy steps helped me get past the overwhelming beginning. Her self deprecating humor helped me out of the weeds when I started to hit sensitive areas. And her reiteration of the process helped me to remember the basic steps when dealing with a complex mess. Her narration is so charming that I felt more like I was chatting with my best friend than being taught how to unburden my house from a mess of my own making. Every day I wake up and put on my earbuds and listen to her cheer me on while I find a new area to make livable and beautiful. The Audible version of the book makes the most sense for me because I want to listen to her while I am working on my house, picking up and chauffeuring kids, and running errands.
I highly recommend this book before reading her first book about how to manage your house. After decluttering, managing housework is so much easier and less stressful. Thank you Dana!

Author makes an excellent reader
Any additional comments?
It seems natural to assume that an author, more than anyone else, is best suited to read aloud their own writing. After all, they are the ones who strung these words together to create sentences that turned into paragraphs, pages, then chapters. If you're an avid audiobook listener, though, you've realized this is often not the case. Surprising, isn't it? But "Decluttering at the Speed of Light" is an exception. I cringe at the thought of someone else reading these words, with their conversational style and underlying humor. Dana White's words are insightful on paper or read aloud, but her humor is largely achieved in her unique delivery. She is pitch perfect.

Very inspiring!!
I honestly do not even know how I found this book as I was browsing through Audible. But I am so glad I did!! The authors wit and way of telling her story of how she decluttered has actually made it enjoyable!
I definitely recommend this book!!

Read this book for emotional support
The story behind this book is what drives the book. If you have trouble with the clutter in your life, and need support as you work through it, this book may be of some assistance. However, this book breaks down into some very simple rules that could easily have been summarized in a blog post. True, following the steps will probably help you de-clutter your life, but if following the step is all you need to do, then the cliff's notes would be a better choice for you than this book. If support is what you are seeking, this book has some of the personal stories and understanding that you may need to be able to hear the steps and begin working towards a healthier, cleaner lifestyle. It also has repetition. Lots of repetition. It's designed in such a way that if you are not going to write down the steps and begin working, then by the end of the book by gosh you will have the steps fairly well memorized.

The best decluttering book out there
I love Dana’s approach and wit. And this system works! I highly recommend this book for people who aren’t automatically tidy or who wake up one day surrounded by clutter. Honest, funny and good to the bone!

Awesome & Helpful
First off, I’ve never listened to an author read a book that was any good, but Dana was exceptional!!! If she ever decides to quit her blogging/writing, she could earn a living reading audio books. I would look for her ,that’s how good she was.
Secondly, I went into this book thinking it wasn’t really possible to change the way I think about my stuff, and finally get some things out of our home. I was wrong! I’m in the beginning stages, but I’m walking around my home for the first time ever and looking at it as a container. Dana has given me the permission I need to throw away and donate stuff instead of just figure out how to reorganize the stuff we have spilling out everywhere.
The book was extra interesting because of her own personal examples. I guess it seemed doable compared to those super neat freak women that want to tell you how to to fix your home. Thanks Dana! You’re my new hero.🌷

Very repetitive & drawn out. Chapters don’t sync up.
I do really like that this is narrated by the author herself & Dana does have some great ideas when it comes to decluttering.
However, if you’ve watched a couple of Dana’s videos on YouTube or read her blog posts, you already know what’s in the book. Container concept. Clutter threshold. Start with trash & the easy stuff. Take stuff where it goes without making a bigger mess. And she just repeats the same stuff over & over going room by room. It seems as though this book is geared toward people who’s homes are completely overloaded with clutter & if you’re just an average person who has a semi-presentable home but wants less stuff, I think YouTube or blogs would be a better bet for you.
Other audiobooks have the titles on the chapters & all the chapters are correct - ie chapter 3 really is chapter 3 & it shows that chapter’s title on the track. In this audiobook, chapter 3 says it’s chapter 6 & there’s no title. I can have difficulty following along to audiobooks & this a big peeve of mine. Having the chapter titles help me to focus & remember the topic. It also gets a bit confusing when she’s referencing chapter 3 & it’s actually chapter 6.
Overall the ideas are good, I just think it should be a lot more concise.

"Spoke to my 'slob' soul..."
Excellent. Even includes a chapter on decluttering "dreams"! Can't wait to implement her proven tactics!
