Publisher's Summary
When he sees the bizarre list of stolen and vandalized items - including a stethoscope, a box of chocolates, a slashed rucksack, and a diamond ring (which was stolen, then discovered in a bowl of soup) - he congratulates Mrs. Hubbard on a "unique and beautiful problem". But Poirot soon has more than a possible petty thief on his hands when murder enters the picture.
What the critics say
"The infallibly original Agatha Christie has come up with a new and highly ingenious puzzle-construction." (The New York Times)

Great book, but Hugh Fraser’s accents go awry
Like earlier Agatha Christie novels, this one provides an interesting glimpse into the time in which it was written. The 1950s were not as conservative as we in later generations have been taught to believe!
Overall, this is another great, interesting, enjoyable novel :-)
This time, however, Hugh Fraser’s voicing of characters falls short, including one which ends up sounding racist. His American accent is all right, but not quite good enough to fool Canadians or Americans. His Black African (but not South African) accent starts off sounding like a decent representation of commonalities among many of those accents. HOWEVER, at some point, Fraser loses track, and, in the last chunk of the book, this African sounds a lot like an Indian :-( (By the way, Fraser’s Indian accents are pretty good, managing to stay away from the all too common, racist “bidi bidi” accent [for an explanation of this term, please see Aasif Mandvi’s autobiography, No Land’s Man, available as an Audible Audiobook read by the author].

too contrived
I generally like complicated plots in mysteries but there is such a thing as too contrived and in my opinion this book qualifies. A rare miss by AC.
