Why is Red Bull so popular, though everyone—everyone!—hates the taste? Humans are, in a word, irrational, basing decisions as much on subtle external signals (that little blue can) as on objective qualities (flavor, price, quality). The surrounding world, meanwhile, is irreducibly complex and random. This means future success can’t be projected on any accounting spreadsheet. The vast majority of writing advice focuses on "writing well" as if it were the same as telling a great story. This is exactly where many aspiring writers fail - they strive for beautiful metaphors, authentic dialogue, and interesting characters, losing sight of the one thing that every engaging story must do.

Best book on purposeful storytelling I've read.
I've read a lot of books on storytelling, and they're almost all giant, vague, abstract treatises on creating an entire novel or screenplay. This is the first book that taught me how to leverage a story in a youtube vid or social media. Grateful.

It needs an abridged version.
I survived another book that should have been a blog post. Too many examples and repetitions. AND in the most important part of the book (where it tells you how to write the story and you would actually benefit from a good example) they chose an example that is not at all relatable (the movie Moneyball?!)

Good book. Introductory
There was a good story around setting up the story. There were a few key points to highlight and share. I would have liked if it had a more structured or classroom approach. I listened to it, maybe if I read it, I would have felt the classroom affect.

Great book, but.. UPDATED
Update: Okay, so I figured it out. You have to play Robert's narration at a faster speed. I use 1.25x the speed and it keeps me engaged. I don't zone out anymore.
Old Review: Robert McKee.. legend. Book is really insightful and intuitive, except.. for his ability to read an audiobook. Something about his voice makes me tune out and not care.
I've bought several audiobooks from McKee.. same story. Great material... but something about his voice doesn't work for me.

I took more notes while listening to this book then I ever have before. I am a regular listener to non-fiction and business based books, and I’ve heard a lot of bad ones. This is most certainly not one of them.
Enjoy the learning experience of this book, but keep a notepad and pen handy. You just may learn more than you are able to remember in one sitting!

Dry, complete waste of time
Funny enough, this audiobook which talks about storytelling has zero story in it, and as a result , it’s so dry and boring that I skipped several parts but it never got better. Great disappointment.
