As the city's richest art patrons pour into the Rocque Museum's opening night, all of the staff, including editor Maggie Richter, hope the event will be enough to save the historic institution's flailing finances. Except Kim Lord never shows up to her own gala. Fear mounts as the hours and days drag on and Lord remains missing. Suspicion falls upon the up-and-coming gallerist Greg Shaw Ferguson, who happens to be Maggie's ex. A rogue's gallery of eccentric art world figures could also have motive for the act, and as Maggie gets drawn into her own investigation of Lord's disappearance, she'll come to suspect all of those closest to her.

1st Reece bookclub to guide me wrong
This is the first time a Reece bookclub recommendation has led me a stray. The story is slow and the character development was lacking to the point I was confused who is who.

Slow

Art and Murder - Match made in heaven!
I love true crime, and rarely read fiction, but I truly enjoyed this novel from Hummel. Perhaps the storyline is predictable, but I enjoyed all of the descriptions, locations, and different characters at play here. As a 20-something myself, I see a lot of myself in the main character's worries, and motivations. I also love Tavia GIlbert's narration, she does a great job and totally fits the main character in my mind. If your looking for a quick, sexy, and fun read check this out!

worst book I've read since grade school
Took 2 hrs just to get to the central event of the story in an 8 hr book. Every time a character is introduced you get told their back story in too much detail and with the narrators feelings about them and maybe their history together. It is written in a very pretentious way, which is so fitting because it takes place in the fine art world. Every time I listened to it I would get angry about how slow it was, the flowery descriptions and how I didn't need all this extra crap thrown in.
There is an art show description where every painting from the headline artist is described. THAT ALONE TOOK OVER 6 MINUTES. I skipped over 4min of it because it was so tedious.
I didn't finish the book.
The characters are very well developed snd defined though.

Wasn't All That Interesting
Not sure why, but I just didn't care a whole lot about the characters or what happened to them. The performance was decent, but the story was pretty blah.
