À propos de cet audio
“Want to understand the changing world? Start with what stays the same. That’s the amazing conclusion of Morgan Housel’s fascinating, useful, and highly-entertaining book.”
— Arthur C. Brooks, Professor, Harvard Kennedy School and Harvard Business School, and #1 New York Times bestselling author
From the author of the international blockbuster THE PSYCHOLOGY OF MONEY, a powerful new tool to unlock one of life’s most challenging puzzles.
Every investment plan under the sun is, at best, an informed speculation of what may happen in the future, based on a systematic extrapolation from the known past.
Same as Ever reverses the process, inviting us to identify the many things that never, ever change.
With his usual elan, Morgan Housel presents a master class on optimizing risk, seizing opportunity, and living your best life. Through a sequence of engaging stories and pithy examples, he shows how we can use our newfound grasp of the unchanging to see around corners, not by squinting harder through the uncertain landscape of the future, but by looking backwards, being more broad-sighted, and focusing instead on what is permanently true.
By doing so, we may better anticipate the big stuff, and achieve the greatest success, not merely financial comforts, but most importantly, a life well lived.

You might believe you’re thinking clearly in the moments that matter most. But in all likelihood, when the pressure is on, you won’t be thinking at all. And your subsequent actions will inevitably move you further from the results you ultimately seek—love, belonging, success, wealth, victory. According to Farnam Street founder Shane Parrish, we must get better at recognizing these opportunities for what they are, and deploying our cognitive ability in order to achieve the life we want.

Overwork is the new normal. Rest is something to do when the important things are done - but they are never done. Looking at different forms of rest, from sleep to vacation, Silicon Valley futurist and business consultant Alex Soojung-Kim Pang dispels the myth that the harder we work the better the outcome. He combines rigorous scientific research with a rich array of examples of writers, painters, and thinkers - from Darwin to Stephen King - to challenge our tendency to see work and relaxation as antithetical.

Money - investing, personal finance, and business decisions - is typically taught as a math-based field, where data and formulas tell us exactly what to do. But in the real world people don’t make financial decisions on a spreadsheet. They make them at the dinner table, or in a meeting room, where personal history, your own unique view of the world, ego, pride, marketing, and odd incentives are scrambled together. In The Psychology of Money, award-winning author Morgan Housel shares 19 short stories exploring the strange ways people think about money.

Our current definition of “productivity” is broken. It pushes us to treat busyness as a proxy for useful effort, leading to impossibly lengthy task lists and ceaseless meetings. We’re overwhelmed by all we have to do and on the edge of burnout, left to decide between giving into soul-sapping hustle culture or rejecting ambition altogether. But are these really our only choices?

Ce que les critiques en disent
"Morgan Housel has done it again. Same As Ever brims with wisdom and wit, and Housel has an ingenious way of selecting the perfect, unforgettable story to drive home timeless lessons about money, life, storytelling, ambition, and satisfaction. This little book contains a library's worth of wisdom.” (Derek Thompson, The Atlantic)
“This book is both profoundly thoughtful, almost impossible to put down, and really important. Housel explains how so much of what determines our fate is random, seemingly hanging from a thread—and yet, there are also universal truths that have stayed consistent over centuries. What Housel shows is how to find them.” (Bethany McLean, bestselling coauthor of The Smartest Guys in the Room and All the Devils are Here)
“Life changing insights from a fantastic story teller." (Ryan Holiday, bestselling author of The Obstacle is the Way and The Daily Dad)

Captivating Perspective
Brilliant masterpiece of what was, is and will always be. There are so many key takeaways in this book. Ones ability to identify the top vs the bottom for example.

Captivating & Excellent (as expected)
I stumbled on “Psychology of Money” a couple of years ago. It is one of the best books/audiobooks on personal finance, self-development and life philosophy I have ever purchased. It is amongst my favourites which I’ve repeatedly listened to and have recommended to family, friends and coworkers on multiple occasions. I have also watched many of the author’s interviews on YouTube, which are gems in themselves. For over a year, I waited impatiently for this new book “Same As Ever”, anxious to listen to more of his wisdom expressed through remarkable storytelling and key sentences that capture the essence of the message. Therefore, I purchased it on Audible on the first day of release. I’m just a couple of chapters in and it definitely does not disappoint. I anticipate the rest to be the same excellent quality. The book was released a month after the shocking and unexpected development in the Middle East. It made absolutely no mention of the world changing event, presumably because the author had already completed the final version, and books/audiobooks had been printed and recorded ready for sale. But this absence only reinforces the important and exact point the author was making in the first chapter. I believe this book will be another treasure which I shall enjoy repeatedly in the coming years.

Insightful Sequel to Psychology of Money
I'll admit I did find this book a bit disjointed, and had to stop and remind myself several times of the overall theme. It was a bit all over the place, but I found it to be extremely interesting and insightful nonetheless. Morgan Housel has a ton of wisdom to share and in the end I was wishing that this book was longer. I'll definitely listen to it again.

A New Perspective That Offers New Hope
Just like the “Psychology of Money,” Morgan Housel quiets the background noise of the media and social biases and reminds us that two things can be exactly the same and look completely different depending on the lens you look at it through. Everyday we’re bombarded with “shorts” that only tell us part of the story and are presented to suit an agenda. We get caught up in the drama and chaos of things that are worlds away. Things that have always been there but now we know about them. This book turns the volume down on all of the chaos and brings us back to reality. The whole world could benefit from reading this book.

Just boring
I could only listen to so much at 1.7x and it was still boring. Total snooze fest. Restating the obvious over and over. None of the points were enlightening. Definitely not recommending this book or coming back to it.

Great author falls short
Housel is a talented writer with a track record of success. Unfortunately this title relies on examples that feel trite. There are too many references to Wall Street, Harry Truman, and the work of Kahneman/Tversky. Borders on unoriginal.
