Eastern Philosophy that’s Soothing to my Ears

Sometimes, it is necessary to go back to the wisdom, authenticity and simplicity of Oriental philosophy to ground yourself when you are surrounded by materialism, shallowness, exhibitionism, pomp and grandeur that belie moral emptiness. While I don’t agree with everything Laozi espoused, he spoke about some eternal and universal truths, such as, truth is bitter, not to fall for flattery/show off or try to control others or that wise people keep their mouths shut and hide their wealth and achievements. Also thought provoking was his assertion that scholars know nothing and that practical wisdom will always triumph over bookish knowledge. Hard hitting for someone who loves to read and fills her head with knowledge and then reflects on them!
Wonder whether his teachings will strike a chord with the modern American crowd - the masses because he champions a path of life that’s the exact opposite of what Americans believe in and practise currently.
