I have loved Tamora Pierce since I was a teenager. This book is one of my favourites of hers. It is so well written and really transports you into the realm of Tortall. I also loved Susan Denaker as the narrator. She did a wonderful job making this book come alive. #Audible1

I have loved this story since the first day it came out. The naration however could use some work. But still an excellent choice!!!

Cant get enough of this story

Love the characters and story. It had Sherlock meets a fantasy medieval world kind of vibes to it and one I had a hard time putting down. My one criticism is that Beka's breakfasts is overly described, to the point where I almost went back to count. I did however fall in love with this book regardless and was counting the days for my next book credit to listen to book 2. I love Tamara Pierces other books and this was definitely amongst the best of them.

I love Tamora Pierce's books. Tortall is one of my absolute favourite worlds to visit. It's been some years since my last read and this time I decided I would try the audiobooks. The narrator for this one did a good job overall. I'd wondered if having the books read to me would take something away from the experience of the story, but it didn't. This novel was just as good as it was the first time I read it in 2006. I love Beka; I always feel like she is a kindred spirit. Can't wait to listen to the next two books in this series and then the rest of the books in the Tortall universe!

I greatly enjoyed listening to this book. The Beka Cooper series is a bit more mature than the rest of the Tortall Universe. The writing style is a bit different too as it's a journal except the very beginning and end of the series. The Susan Denaker really brings the characters to life.

Tamora Pierce has been my favourite author for the last 15 years and I have always enjoyed her stories. Beka is no difference, I love that though she has some gift she is not a mage. I love how its written and the characters that are in it. I suggest listening.
