Sybil expects her world to go on as it always has—a mother, grandmother, wife, divorcee, distinguished lawyer, she has lived a very full life. Enjoyed the different voice actors for the multiple letter writers, this makes the work seem more like a radio drama. Some were exceptional such as the artist who voices Theodore Lubeck. Sybil mildly irritated me both in voice and character traits although she is a true enough representation of a privileged WASP of her generation. As a listen the constant repetition of street and email addresses becomes a little monotonous, if you’re reading the book you can just gloss over these although sometimes dates and times are relevant. All the loose ends were just too conveniently tied up at the end of the book and the mild peril situations were too tame. The multiple literature references seemed almost designed for the book club crowd, I’m sure this work will feature in many such gatherings this coming year. The authors referred to, if living, or their estates, if passed, probably don’t mind the publicity. I was very happy Kazuo Ishiguro did not reply though. I would have thought much less of him had he done so.

A lovely story read through letters and the audio was exceptional with numerous actors letting the story come to life. Touching and warm in parts and real. It was a good story, makes you wanna start writing letters again
