À propos de cet audio
In this magical, ethereal fantasy novel from the bestselling author of The Bone Houses, a crew led by a magic welding woman fight to take down the overpowered prince that used and abused them.
Once upon a time, the kingdoms of Wales were rife with magic and conflict, and eighteen-year-old Mererid “Mer” is well-acquainted with both. She is the last living water diviner and has spent years running from the prince who bound her into his service. Under the prince’s orders, she located the wells of his enemies, and he poisoned them without her knowledge, causing hundreds of deaths. After discovering what he had done, Mer went to great lengths to disappear from his reach. Then Mer’s old handler returns with a proposition: use her powers to bring down the very prince that abused them both.
The best way to do that is to destroy the magical well that keeps the prince’s lands safe. With a motley crew of allies, including a fae-cursed young man, the lady of thieves, and a corgi that may or may not be a spy, Mer may finally be able to steal precious freedom and peace for herself. After all, a person with a knife is one thing…but a person with a cause can topple kingdoms.
The Drowned Woods—set in the same world as The Bone Houses but with a whole new, unforgettable cast of characters—is part heist novel, part dark fairy tale.

Seventeen-year-old Aderyn ("Ryn") only cares about two things: her family and her family's graveyard. And right now, both are in dire straits. Since the death of their parents, Ryn and her siblings have been scraping together a meager existence as gravediggers in the remote village of Colbren, which sits at the foot of a harsh and deadly mountain range that was once home to the fae. The problem with being a gravedigger in Colbren, though, is that the dead don't always stay dead.

In 1893, there's no such thing as witches. There used to be, in the wild, dark days before the burnings began, but now witching is nothing but tidy charms and nursery rhymes. If the modern woman wants any measure of power, she must find it at the ballot box. But when the Eastwood sisters - James Juniper, Agnes Amaranth, and Beatrice Belladonna - join the suffragists of New Salem, they begin to pursue the forgotten words and ways that might turn the women's movement into the witch's movement.

Well Written Standalone
An exciting, magical story about taking back power and paying the price for redemption, THE DROWNED WOODS is well written and has relatable characters that are easy to root for.
The story follows a woman named Mer as she runs from her past, only to be found and recruited for "one last job" that will see her freed from the crown if she is willing to use her power over water to help find an ancient artifact.
Mer is a great female lead: Strong, capable, vulnerable, and willing to do the right thing no matter the cost. Fane is a warrior desperate not to use his abilities, who finds himself looped into Mer's orbit as she and her former mentor assemble a crew to pull off this heist.
The story is well paced and well balanced. There is enough time for the characters to encounter danger and work to overcome it, while allowing for moments of emotion and connection. The story does need some suspension of disbelief at the end (not being familiar with the Welsh legend this is based on), but it nevertheless keeps the stakes raised right until the end.
I really enjoyed the writing and style and the prose. Some of the characters could have come in sooner and done a little more for the plot, but there were some truly great twists and surprises that I didn't see coming and felt perfect for the story.
A great standalone for anyone who wants a retelling of Welsh lore, THE DROWNED WOODS is a recommended standalone for lovers of epic fantasy.
