À propos de cet audio
Life's a game. At least it is for everyone stranded in Viridian Gate Online, the only RPG where you can swap the apocalypse for an avatar and a fist full of magic . . .
Jack Mitchell knows he won't survive the impact of the massive asteroid hurtling towards Earth. He's not one of the handful of lucky lottery winners scheduled for rescue. But he did luck into a NexGenVR capsule, which means Jack can risk a one-way trip to the world of Viridan Gate Online (V.G.O.), an ultra-immersive fantasy role-playing game. Taking that leap of faith, though, means permanently trapping his mind in the game and killing his body in the process.
Worse, one in six die during the transition, and even if Jack beats the odds, he'll still have to navigate a world filled with vicious monsters, domineering AIs, and cutthroat players. And when Jack stumbles upon a secret conspiracy to sell off virtual real estate to the ultrawealthy—transforming V.G.O. into a new feudal dark age—the deadly creatures inhabiting Viridian Gate's expansive dungeons will be the least of his concerns.
If Jack can't game the system, he's going to be trading in a quick death for a long, brutal one. Oh well, at least he gets a dragon . . .

When it comes to action and adventure, every hero needs a good sidekick. Holmes has Watson, Batman has Robin, and Daniel has . . . Orrin. More like brothers than friends, they always have each other's backs. And as Daniel is the big, strong, handsome type, Orrin is more than happy to remain in his shadow at school, at parties, pretty much everywhere. Then things take a turn for the truly weird when a terrible accident catapults the pair into a world totally unlike their own, in which the rules of a role-playing game hold sway.

Arthur lives with his father, a fallen but proud former noble, in Border Village #49, along with the other good folks condemned to toil in service to the Baron. But Arthur has an edge: a stolen heart card that secretly fell into his possession, thanks to a dragon. It’s a priceless source of power for the Baron and the tyrant will kill to get it back. We were fighting on the wrong side of a war we couldn't win. And that was the good news. The Ruhar hit us on Columbus Day. There we were, innocently drifting along the cosmos on our little blue marble, like the native Americans in 1492. Over the horizon come ships of a technologically advanced, aggressive culture, and BAM! There go the good old days, when humans only got killed by each other. So, Columbus Day. It fits. When the morning sky twinkled again, this time with Kristang starships jumping in to hammer the Ruhar, we thought we were saved.

I've read a lot of LitRPG in the last year and while the story is good and picks up at the last 3 hours I've found myself drifting at times because I was not engaged.
**UPDATE**
I've left the original review as a reminder to shut my mouth sometimes!
I've listened to the entire serie and honestly, it could have gone indefinitely. While I had my gripe with the tone of the narrator, I've grown to like it and love it. VGO is really a masterpiece that keeps on giving with a lot to go about.
Story is nice, narrator is flavorless ** UPDATED**

alright alright!
Un problème est survenu. Veuillez réessayer dans quelques minutes.
I really enjoyed this book. Note, in my opinion, the very start of the book didn't hook me immediately. I had started it in Kindle, then put it down, then picked it up again as a free library option in Audible. So I recommend giving it a bit of time if you're not sure.
I don't usually like LitRPGs where the characters are actually just in a virtual world. This one shifts it a bit because the characters are dead in the real world. The real world itself is dead. So the virtual world is real. And you respawn when you die, so you're stuck there even if things get really, really bad. This twist shifted my perception enough that the stakes were real. Not just points on a leaderboard of a game the characters can leave. The NPCs are also almost real. So the stakes of actions are realer because of that.
The interesting twist in this book is that there's more intrigue and politics than I'd seen in a LitRPG before. The enemy is other humans, doing human things that they've carried over from the real world. The power brokers and elites of our world aren't going to give up power just because it's a new world. And it feels real.
The book is written from the POV of the main character of GrimJack. (originally Jack Mitchell but not for very long.) He's a gamer, so this isn't a big jump in worldview for him. But his perception of what is real and realization of the stakes sinks in over this book. This is fun, and good setup for a series.
There are stats, but they don't go on and on. It's enough to get the meaning, but you aren't listening for minutes at a time.
There's a sense of completion of this part of the adventure. But it's clearly the beginning of the adventure. Which is good for book 1 of a series. As of writing this, I'm listening to book 3.
Great series opener
Un problème est survenu. Veuillez réessayer dans quelques minutes.
*SEMI-SPOILER ALERT*
I despise any story where the main character is written as a stupid fool and the reactions of Jack in the final chapter did not seem to follow what was shown of his intelect earlier. Maybe that's just my own bias as the reader/listener but I found it out of character for him.
A 99% good listen.
