  • Pause to Be: Gen Z - Episode 6: Mindfulness, Acceptance and ACT
    Jul 28 2021

In this episode, I share some of my insights from the mindfulness-based training method known as "ACT" (acceptance and commitment training/therapy).

After training to teach mindfulness-based living courses, I became very interested in ACT, which combines four mindfulness skills with taking meaningful action towards what matters most to us in our lives.

When I recognised the power of the ACT method, and the freedom and flexibility that stem from it, I wondered why it had taken me until my mid-40's to discover it! Some of my clients in their 60's and 70's feel the same!

So this year, I've undertaken training with renowned ACT professionals: Russ Harris (author of the Happiness Trap), as well as with Louise Hayes & Joseph Ciarrochi,  in order to share the ACT method with teens and young adults.

I share mindfulness and ACT with adults and young people, in both groups and one-to-one sessions.

  • Pause to Be: Gen Z - Episode 5: Body Image
    Jul 13 2021

In this episode, I have a powerful conversation about the crucially important topic of Teen Body Image, with anti-diet, food and body freedom coach, and body positive yoga teacher, Gillian McCollum.

I hope you find this episode as helpful and as insightful as I did.

Gillian talks about the importance of cultivating a culture of diversity and inclusivity in the family home, as well as how to manage food and body commentary from other friends and relatives.

We talk about the significance of being "embodied" - how we feel being in our bodies, rather than how we feel about our appearance -  as well as the importance of recognising the functionality of our bodies; what is my body's purpose?

We also chat about the impact of social media, influencers, and how we can help our young people become more media literate, to recognise what is "fake" and what is real, whilst also understanding that even fake images have an impact on our culture and how we feel.

Gillian can be contacted at www.gillianmccollum.com and by email hello@gillianmccollum.com
