    In our sixth episode and season finale of Two Guys One Paper, we had the pleasure of talking with Leire Retegui Schiettekatte before she headed off to the 2025 EGU General Assembly. Leire is a PhD student in the Geodesy research group at Aalborg University and recently won the EliteForsk travel grant. She told us about her research field and the contribution of her latest paper, which is one of several but the first in her PhD. This can be found in the Science of the Total Environment journal and is titled “Assessing daily GRACE Data Assimilation during flood events of the Brahmaputra River Basin”. Among many insights she offers, we heard about her engagement with peer-review, and a funny anecdote about a potential AI reviewer.

  • S01E05 Raising the roof with Matt Howells

    For the fifth episode of Two Guys One Paper, we distracted Matthew (Matt) Howells as he approached his PhD thesis submission. Matt has published several papers already, including one as first author during his previous role. However, in this episode we discussed his most recent paper, the first of his PhD dissertation. This can be found in the Housing Studies journal and is titled The neoliberalization of housing policy and social housing provision in the Nordics: convergence or continued variegation? Matt is now a postdoc in the Planning for Urban Sustainability research group at Aalborg University, and at the time of release he is preparing for his PhD defence in June.

  • S01E04 Participatory research with Maria Risager Nielsen

    In our fourth episode of Two Guys One Paper, we had a coffee with Maria Risager Nielsen and she told us about her master thesis, which she spent doing participatory research in Greenland. This resulted in an article in the Études/Inuit Studies journal titled Impacts of Climate Change on Youth’s Place Attachment: A Case Study of Tasiilaq, East Greenland. She also talked about this in the context of ongoing decolonization discourse. Maria is currently a research assistant in the Danish Centre for Environmental Assessment research group at Aalborg University, and is working on social impact assessment and gender in relation to energy and mining projects.

    In the third (Christmasy themed) episode of Two Guys One Paper, we drank some Danish Christmas gløgg with Mia Cassidy Prall. She explained her recent research paper on social flood vulnerability and how she approaches collaborations. Mia is an industrial PhD fellow in the Centre for Blue Governance Research Group at Aalborg University with the Danish Coastal Authority.     In the second episode of Two Guys One Paper, Tom and Furqan chat with our colleague Giovanni Codotto, a final year PhD fellow in the Life Cycle Sustainability Research Group at Aalborg University, about his first research paper entitled “Model uncertainty versus variability in the life cycle assessment of commercial fisheries” published in the Journal of Industrial Ecology. He also talks about collaborating across different research groups and disciplines. His open access paper also acheived the gold-gold data openness badge.     Welcome to our brand new podcast called Two Guys One Paper hosted by Tom Elliot and Furqan Asif.

    In this short introductory episode we explain who we, what the podcast is about and why we're starting it.

    In the following episodes you’ll hear discussions with PhD students including their research on smart energy systems, uncertainty in life cycle assessment modelling of fisheries, and social flood vulnerability and climate adaptation.
