In this episode, we’re leaving behind prisons and ghost towns to meet Pennsylvania’s saddest cryptid: The Squonk.

Born from the lumberjack tall tales of the early 1900s, the Squonk is said to wander the hemlock forests of northern Pennsylvania. It’s described as a shy, wart-covered creature with saggy, ill-fitting skin, and the most unfortunate habit of crying nonstop. In fact, it’s so ashamed of its appearance that if cornered, it doesn’t fight or flee. Instead…it dissolves into a puddle of tears.

But the Squonk’s story isn’t just folklore. It’s seeped into pop culture too. From rock songs by Genesis and Steely Dan, to quirky festivals like Squonkapalooza in Johnstown, this little cryptid of sorrow has become a symbol of embracing imperfection and finding community in the weird and wonderful.

So grab a tissue, because this time our monster isn’t terrifying; it’s tragic. And maybe, just maybe, a little relatable.

Join us as we follow the tear-streaked trail of the Squonk through Pennsylvania’s forests and folklore.

In this episode, we’re heading up to the Texas Panhandle to explore the haunted history of Amarillo, a city where the past echoes loud and clear. First, we visit The Nat, once a dance hall and now home to eerie footsteps and ghostly figures who never left the party. Then it’s on to the towering Santa Fe Building, where strange sounds and phantom elevator rides have left employees uneasy for decades. We’ll creep through the halls of the old St. Anthony’s Hospital, where reports of ghostly nurses and disembodied voices still linger long after the last patient checked out. And finally, we make our way to the ghost town of Old Tascosa and its Boot Hill Cemetery, once a Wild West hotbed of shootouts, lawmen, and restless spirits.

Amarillo may look quiet on the surface, but these haunted spots tell a much darker story.

In this episode, we’re stepping inside one of the most infamous, and most haunted, prisons in the world: Eastern State Penitentiary in Philadelphia. Once hailed as the most advanced prison of its time, Eastern State opened in 1829 as an experiment in solitary confinement. Inmates lived in total isolation, forced to wear hoods, and kept under constant “watch” through skylights nicknamed the Eye of God. The idea was repentance and reform, but the reality was mental breakdown, despair, and cruelty. Even Charles Dickens, after visiting, condemned it as “immeasurably worse than any torture of the body.”

Through the decades, Eastern State housed over 75,000 prisoners, including the notorious Al Capone, and became known for harsh punishments, riots, and violence. It closed in 1971, but many believe the spirits of those who suffered there never left. Visitors and staff report shadow figures slipping along the walls, disembodied voices, ghostly faces, and cold spots that chill you to the bone. Paranormal investigators have captured eerie EVPs, unexplained whispers, and apparitions in cellblocks long empty of life.

Today, Eastern State is a historic site and museum, but it’s also considered one of the most haunted places in America. Whether you’re there for the history, the ghost tours, or the legendary Halloween Nights, one thing’s for sure: behind those crumbling walls, the past isn’t done speaking.

Step inside with us…if you dare.
