Publisher's Summary

Wednesday, October 2, 2002.

Aspen Hill, Maryland. Northgate Plaza.

5:20 PM.

Inside Michael’s craft supply store, cashier Ann Chapman rings up another customer. Then it happens. A loud crack; a gust of wind; the light in register five goes dark.

Over the next 23 days, the entire DC area will be thrust into a reign of terror unprecedented in American history. Sniper attacks targeting and murdering everyday citizens will bring the entire region to its knees, as a nation still reeling from the recent attacks of 9/11 and the anthrax scare, are forced to confront a new type of brutal assault—this time in their own backyard. As law enforcement grapples with the mass carnage and chaos, media’s ravenous 24-hour cycle amplifies the very real fear, while steadily pumping new theories and bad leads onto a paralyzed public desperate for it all to end.

But who can stop it? And exactly how?

Call Me God is the never-before-told story of the fascinating and turbulent investigation that led to the diabolical and elusive killers' capture; one that pitted protocol against instinct, sacred institutions against individual insight. Told firsthand by those few who had the vision and expertise to solve it, and including a fascinating look into the behavioral, ballistic, forensic, and electronic analysis vital to cracking the case, FBI agent brothers Jim Clemente (former FBI behavioral profiler) and Tim Clemente (former FBI counter-terrorism expert) take us through every facet and flaw of a nationwide manhunt that pressure tested nearly every aspect of law enforcement capabilities—and its glaring vulnerabilities.

Anchored by harrowing accounts from victims, intimate conversations with family members of those deceased, as well as candid accounts from those who knew the perpetrators best, relive the haunting events of the DC Sniper attack and piece together a true crime phenomenon that's impact can still be felt today.

Chilling

Hearing this case told from inside the investigation shed light on the process and difficulties law enforcements face, difficulties that the public don’t often get to see. The story of these murders is heartbreaking and I appreciated that the loved ones of the victims, or victims themselves, were able to speak and humanize those lost and the true tragedy of these acts. Very well narrated and incredibly well written. I would recommend to anyone.

Very interesting background score and narration

loved it. I like the way how story was narrated by people who are involved in that incident by involving different persons which makes it seems like watching a documentary film.

Riveting!

You know an audiobook/podcast is well done when there is a long list of characters and a complicated timeline for a situation that took place in multiple states/ countries and the story was still told clearly, without confusion. Very well done.

Too long, irrelevant details and hard to follow

This started out so well. The first few chapters were great and the details kept you just enough engaged that you wanted to know more.

Once you get about five chapters in though it starts to drag. You learn about all these side stories which are hard to follow or even link back to the main story.

Add to this that each chapter is loaded separately and don’t flow into one another and it just became annoying and dull. I struggled to get through to the end but I stuck it out. I won’t lie though there are hours of my life that could have been out to better use than listening to this.

If I had a do over I wouldnt purchase it.

A captivating account of the DC sniper

I was initially interested in giving this podcast a try just to learn bit more about the circumstances surrounding this very famous and historical event. What I got was a truly captivating, better than any other true crime story I’ve ever read, mesmerizing, honest, heartbreaking and informative account of two really terrible criminals. The narration was superb and the story reeled me in. As I mourned for the lives lost I was also constantly anticipating and rooting for the police and the brilliant working dog who helped crack the case.

The only criticism I have is toward the Audiable app because the podcasts are not listed in order and so I have to hunt through the list to find the next episode. Very annoying that it doesn’t have a way to play them consecutively.

I listed to this while paining the house

This is a great story, of a true event. I enjoyed how it was told by real people. Also the victims family and how they were impacted, by the senseless killing of there loved ones. What I got out of this, was how someone so terrible ruined the lives of so many, Including his own children. There is a lot of profiling in how things evolved in the characterisation, that leads to the capture and conviction of a criminal.
