Description
Styvie Savard was a damn good cop - before she made a mistake that cost her everything. Now she lives in her car, works a dead-end job, and scrapes by on the fumes of a dwindling savings account. Life couldn’t get much worse, until it does. One morning on the way to work, Styvie hits a 16-year-old, Dharma, with her car. When the injured girl flees the scene, Styvie finds that she can’t leave well enough alone.
Propelled by ghosts from her own complicated past, Styvie is determined to find the girl and make things right. In her pursuit, Styvie confronts Dharma’s brother, Jeremy, a violent addict working as a distributor in a fentanyl drug ring; and Dharma’s husband, Glen, who heads a pseudo-Eastern-religious cult.
Styvie becomes obsessed with freeing the teenaged Dharma from Glen’s clutches and bringing Jeremy down. In doing so, she forms a tenuous and clandestine arrangement with her ex-boyfriend, Detective Constable Dennison Lee. Going undercover reignites her love for law enforcement and polishes her rusty sleuthing skills. At first it seems as if she could slide right back into her old life, but when Styvie develops an unshakable bond with Dharma, the lines between right and wrong blur.
In the end, Styvie must make a choice: chase down her old badge and recoup her losses or follow her instinct and save Dharma from a future she doesn’t deserve.

Sarah lives in Vancouver, British Columbia, where she teaches English at Langara College and volunteers as a literacy mentor in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside.
About the Narrator
Juliette co-wrote and co-directed the three seasons of her webseries Switch and Bitch on Tou.tv, in which she also plays a role. She is currently writing a feature film with Sophia Belahmer.

Narrator ruins a decent story
I nearly stopped listening to this novel because the person reading the story is so annoying. This is definitely a reading of the book rather than a performance.
The premise for the story is original, as are the main characters.

Main character is terrible and storyline bad
I disliked the main character, Stevie, about 1/2 way through and never recovered to cheer for her. she deserved all the bad things that happened to her. Terrible finish to the book and wouldn’t recommend this book to anyone. Decent voice actress though

Just Okay
The story was not bad, a tad different then your typical 'Who done it". The narrator sounded like a teenager even thought the main character was in her 40 which annoyed me. Would have been better with a different narrator.

Terrible Narration
The story on this one was fairly compelling but the narrator pulled me out of it many times with horrible pronunciation and bland telling. It was as though she was reading it for the first time with little or no research on her subject or location. I recall thinking if I hear her say recognize as "reconize" on more time I'll stop. Other words which drove me a bit crazy were, Chilliwack as "Chilly-wack" & formica as "for-mick-a". Too bad as she has a pretty cool voice all in all. Would have loved to hear her try some characterization a bit.

This narrator is not a good fit.
It's not that the reader doesn't try to do a good job, but her way of reading is just not quite right for this book. I'll keep listening, probably, but its hard to tell whether I feel the story is just okay or if it's the reader is really taking away that much from the overall experience.

Excellent Book, from Start to Finish
This book was a delight to read. The plot was gripping all the way through, and the protagonist is likable and complex. The writing style is beautiful and immersive. I was completely pulled into the world. This author has a great talent for description and creating unique, interesting characters. The book also offers an important commentary on some pressing social issues. In addition, I thoroughly enjoyed the narration. It was lively and expressive. I can't wait for the next book in the series to come out.

Just OK
Maybe just not my cup of tea but I did read/listen to it all. I particularly did not like the ending. I felt it needed to be tidied up a bit.

this narrator had a great sound. I liked her BUT..
I like this narrator's tone and intonation but her ability to Analyze the script was hindered by her French-speaking 1st language and 1st language and her pronunciation of a lot of English words cities and phrases left the story lacking. her pauses were sometimes annoying but the story really made up for it and kept me listening.

Complicated Relationships
