Dan Carlin's Hardcore History

Written by: Dan Carlin
  • Summary

  • In "Hardcore History" journalist and broadcaster Dan Carlin takes his "Martian", unorthodox way of thinking and applies it to the past. Was Alexander the Great as bad a person as Adolf Hitler? What would Apaches with modern weapons be like? Will our modern civilization ever fall like civilizations from past eras? This isn't academic history (and Carlin isn't a historian) but the podcast's unique blend of high drama, masterful narration and Twilight Zone-style twists has entertained millions of listeners.

This show picks up where Dan's Thor's Angels show left off. In the early Middle Ages Pagan Germanic-language speakers like the Vikings are a dying breed. Many of their contemporaries wish they'd die faster.

The Atlantic Slave Trade mixes centuries of human bondage with violence, economics, commerce, geo-political competition, liberty, morality, injustice, revolution, tragedy and bloody reckonings. That sounds like a lot, yet this show merely scratches the surface of this enormous subject.

fantastic history podcast

engaging, never boring. one of the great podcasts. Dan may be a little lightweight for some of the better read history buffs, but for a layperson like myself it is fantastic!

Dan Carlin is a Genius

I heard of this Podcast through the guys over at Last Podcast on the Left. I'm pretty sure Marcus Parks gave it a shout out, and so naturally I came to check it out, and I gotta say I wasn't disappointed, the King of Kings series was absolutely brilliant to listen to, from the minute little details, to Carlin's own personal opinions, I loved every minute.

I appreciate everything about this podcast, from the thoroughness to the humour, it's incredibly well done. I'd even go as far to say that it's tied right now with LOPTL as my favourite podcast.

Please keep up the good work Dan! (Maybe get the rest of the episodes on here as well PLEASE!)

Amazing tales

Dan brings together many historical perspectives and makes them live. I just finished 15 hours and 3 episodes of King of Kings and looked forward to learning something new every 1/2 hour I spent with him. Immersive history at its best.

Damn Good Listening

I would argue that the validity of both fiction and science fiction can be challenged given the way real history is presented in this podcast. Further more, is it not our responsibility to know the trials and tribulations of the past to better cope with the present and prepare for the future.

This is a rare example of relevant media most humans should be exposed too.
