Publisher's Summary

The seeds of Putin's rise to power lie in a slightly unusual place: 1990s Moscow where, after 70 years of communism, "gangster capitalism" arrived.

Here we tell the story of how a young graduate student at The Institute of Controlled Sciences became one of the richest men in Russia and the Kremlin's Power Broke - Boris Berezovsky.

In the best tradition of investigative journalism

Is a great companion piece to the audible book,The Road to Unfreedom by Timothy Snyder.

Great background story

It's laughable too me that above review (Dzmitry) calls this propaganda. Maybe, and unsurprisingly they don't teach this version of events in Russia. This story shows the improbable rise of Putin, and is supported entirely by fact. I wish it went a little further, but the content provided and delivery is great.

Putin the manipulator

I am not finished all episodes, however I found the episodes I have listened to interesting and should be reviewed by all those young people who subscribe to socialism and those who university professors who suggest it would work in the USA.

Very Very Interesting Story

A really good podcast that fills in the blanks on everything about Putin (Trumps Master)

Good Enough

I enjoy the subject matter and how in-depth it goes. But it seems to think it’s a tv show or something. The music goes too long, the translation have them speaking Russian a little too long. The recaps and intro theme is so annoying. Even the monotone voice of the narrator betrays how gripping this all is. I’m not suggesting it needs much more, but just to remember it’s about listening not watching

More presentation than content

This is an attempt to treat Putin's rise to power as a "60 Minutes-like" news clip complete with pseudo-interviews in Russian and irritating background music and special effects. The content is kind of "Vladimir lite" and may be a worthwhile intro for someone who has been living on another planet for the last 20 years.

Lovely written and voice-over.

I'm enjoying this listen for the authentic voice-overs and sound effects and accents. The best historical audio book I've heard.

just another piece of proofless propaganda

Just another piece of proofless propaganda targeting emotions. Tragic music, military sounds, etc... Garbage for weak brains.

What a shock.

Oh another Russian leader is evil, inadequate and responsible for all the ills in the world? What a shocking position for the BBC to take.
