About this listen

In the romantic tradition of The Notebook and Nights in Rodanthe, number-one New York Times best-selling author Nicholas Sparks returns with a story about a chance encounter that becomes a touchstone for two vastly different individuals - transcending decades, continents, and the bittersweet workings of fate.

Hope Anderson is at a crossroads. At 36, she's been dating her boyfriend, an orthopedic surgeon, for six years. With no wedding plans in sight, and her father recently diagnosed with ALS, she decides to use a week at her family's cottage in Sunset Beach, North Carolina, to ready the house for sale and mull over some difficult decisions about her future.

Tru Walls has never visited North Carolina but is summoned to Sunset Beach by a letter from a man claiming to be his father. A safari guide, born and raised in Zimbabwe, Tru hopes to unravel some of the mysteries surrounding his mother's early life and recapture memories lost with her death. When the two strangers cross paths, their connection is as electric as it is unfathomable...but in the immersive days that follow, their feelings for each other will give way to choices that pit family duty against personal happiness in devastating ways.

Illuminating life's heartbreaking regrets and enduring hope, Every Breath explores the many facets of love that lay claim to our deepest loyalties - and asks the question, How long can a dream survive?

An amazing story of destiny...

I think most of us could only imagine a love like that which was shared by Hope and Tru in this novel. I can’t wait for this to be made into a movie! I ‘Tru-ly’ loved the book!

Didn’t enjoy the voices

The story was pretty good, typical Nicholas Sparks which is what I wanted, but I really had a difficult time with the different voices the narrators would try to use. Reminds me of when you try to read that way to your kids, impersonating characters. I found the accent and impersonation of Hope quite unbearable. I think the story should be read in the narrator’s normal voice. If you want a Carolina accent for Hope, then get a narrator from Carolina.

I love a good Sparks

Happy I started my year off with one of my favorite authors. Wasn't one of my favorites, or would make my top 10 Sparks books, but it was a good read. I enjoyed learning from the characters, and seeing life from their pov. This book made my yearning to travel to North Carolina even stronger!

The narration ruined a good story

I love Nicholas Sparks and have read most of his books. I was very excited about this one overall, and while the story itself is good, though a bit too much like a Hallmark movie (instant love at first sight type of story), the narration was just awful and made it almost impossible to finish.

The narration for Tru was OK but the narrator for Hope was brutal. Very jarring when the story went back to her, loud high-pitched and her Carolinian accent came and went and her attempt at an accent for Tru came off as a bad try at a British accent.

Overall, I would recommend that anyone interested in this book, actually read the book and avoid this version of the audio book.
