Publisher's Summary

In the romantic tradition of The Notebook and Nights in Rodanthe, number-one New York Times best-selling author Nicholas Sparks returns with a story about a chance encounter that becomes a touchstone for two vastly different individuals - transcending decades, continents, and the bittersweet workings of fate.

Hope Anderson is at a crossroads. At 36, she's been dating her boyfriend, an orthopedic surgeon, for six years. With no wedding plans in sight, and her father recently diagnosed with ALS, she decides to use a week at her family's cottage in Sunset Beach, North Carolina, to ready the house for sale and mull over some difficult decisions about her future.

Tru Walls has never visited North Carolina but is summoned to Sunset Beach by a letter from a man claiming to be his father. A safari guide, born and raised in Zimbabwe, Tru hopes to unravel some of the mysteries surrounding his mother's early life and recapture memories lost with her death. When the two strangers cross paths, their connection is as electric as it is unfathomable...but in the immersive days that follow, their feelings for each other will give way to choices that pit family duty against personal happiness in devastating ways.

Illuminating life's heartbreaking regrets and enduring hope, Every Breath explores the many facets of love that lay claim to our deepest loyalties - and asks the question, How long can a dream survive?

Didn’t enjoy the voices

The story was pretty good, typical Nicholas Sparks which is what I wanted, but I really had a difficult time with the different voices the narrators would try to use. Reminds me of when you try to read that way to your kids, impersonating characters. I found the accent and impersonation of Hope quite unbearable. I think the story should be read in the narrator’s normal voice. If you want a Carolina accent for Hope, then get a narrator from Carolina.

bullsh**

starts out with the author saying it's a true story. it isn't. admits his deception in the afterward.

Every Breath review

Very dreamy and compelling story of a soulmate kind of love. As with most love stories, it has the potential to make you critical of or dissatisfied with your own relationship, so be careful there 😊
Enjoyed Tru’s voice.

I love a good Sparks

Happy I started my year off with one of my favorite authors. Wasn't one of my favorites, or would make my top 10 Sparks books, but it was a good read. I enjoyed learning from the characters, and seeing life from their pov. This book made my yearning to travel to North Carolina even stronger!

The narration ruined a good story

I love Nicholas Sparks and have read most of his books. I was very excited about this one overall, and while the story itself is good, though a bit too much like a Hallmark movie (instant love at first sight type of story), the narration was just awful and made it almost impossible to finish.

The narration for Tru was OK but the narrator for Hope was brutal. Very jarring when the story went back to her, loud high-pitched and her Carolinian accent came and went and her attempt at an accent for Tru came off as a bad try at a British accent.

Overall, I would recommend that anyone interested in this book, actually read the book and avoid this version of the audio book.

Typical Sparks fairytale

They parked near one another... proving that even their cars were drawn together!!? Seriously?
I found the story agonizingly ridiculous. I almost stopped listening part way through but for some reason listened to the end and now regret the time I wasted. If Hope had in vitro she could have spent her life with ‘the only man she ever truly loved’ instead of wasting everyone’s time and clinging selfishly to a fake marriage.
It was always jarring when the female narrator took over —especially with her painful on-again off-again accent for Hope. The male narrator was okay except when he attempted Tru’s dying father.
I wouldn’t recommend this book to anyone.

loved the story

I really enjoyed the story but I didn't care for the narration. I find their voices forced with accents.

Wonderful book! I couldn’t stop listening!

Nicholas Sparks is the best love story author!
I actually don’t like love stories in general.
I’m a true cynic after two failed marriages and several long term relationships. I personally don’t believe in love anymore.
However, Nicholas Sparks is such a good writer that a love story in his hands almost makes me believe in love again!

Didn't like at all

I didn't like this at all including the character voices. I hung theough the entire book dreading having to pick it back up again to press start because I hated the voices so much. I wandered constantly because of the narrative. Now on I am going to make sure the narrator appeals me.

beautiful story

I am so in love with this story as I am with most of your stories. I have read almost all of your books. I think this book might be one of my new favorites. The narrators we're amazing. I couldn't stop listening. I love how descriptive you are about Africa. If I closed my eyes I could picture this whole story taking place. I hope they make a movie about this one as well. I love to read and you Mr Nicholas Sparks are one of my absolute favorite authors. I live in Greensboro NC so I love that you mention places that I know. Can't wait to read your next book...

This book is riveting in that you can't stop listening. While it is listed under Fiction, the story is true.

This story of chance, fate, life altering decisions, and circumstance that will penetrate your soul, leave you happy, sad, and give you chills when you hear what the universe conspired on the behalf of this couple. The author admits that the story is true, but agreed to publish it under Fiction in order to get the participants to agree to have their story published. Don't skip a thing. Listen through from the prologue to the epilogue. You'll be inspired and in awe.
Nicholas Sparks knocked it out of the park with this book!

Meh...

It's a decent love story, though pretty far fetched, even for Nicholas Sparks. The female narrator was okay thigh she was supposed to have a NC accent and did not. The male narrator DID have an appropriate accent but legitimately sounded like a robot. It was pretty painful to listen to. I think I would have liked it much better if I had read the paperback.

poor narration + weak plot =wasted credit and time

it may have been a perfectly fine book, but the narration is awful. The narrator tries to speak in a woman's voice and it's torture. I really wanted to enjoy this story but can't listen for more than a few minutes.

Love, Love, Love!!!!!

Nicholas Sparks is an amazing storyteller! I rarely write a review but I have to say that this is an amazing love story. The performance with each character was amazing and when put together kept me wanting to listen even when I should have been doing other things. Now I am thinking that I want to see the places described in the book!!!!

Really Sparks? Has to be one of his worst!

I've ready EVERY Nicholas Sparks book out there. He is my favorite author! I listen on audible then purchase the hard copy of the book just to have. I must say this has been the worst or one of his worst books ever. The story started off as a love story where two people meet. Then jumps to when they're 63 years old. There's so much that was left off. It felt like a high school reunion 30 years later. Absolutely awful.
