Publisher's Summary

Two weeks of rest and recuperation - that's what the doctor ordered. Detective Sergeant DC Smith could listen to some music, make some of his own, and maybe even catch up on his reading; he is almost looking forward to it. And then there is a knock on the door. It's only his next-door neighbor, but it is the beginning of a sequence of events that will bring him face to face with some of the darkest episodes and the most dangerous people from his own past. This is Smith's fifth investigation, but this time it's personal.

Excellent

One of my favourite D C Smith books. You got to know a lot more about the DC’s personal life. I liked that

Great read!

My absolute favourite of the DC Smith novels. I loved delving into DC’s past life. Gripping storyline as well - found this one unputdownable!

Another fantastic book!

Lots of heart in this book, but not so much as to lose track of the plot and humour loved it

Smart, witty, fun

An excellent detective story which brings alive the subtler parts of an investigation that are so often omitted from this genre. This book is part of the series, but it reads well as a standalone. Fun listen from start to finish.

Beautifully written .

Love the characters, the cleverness of the dialogue and the decency and occasional subtle humor of DCI Smith as well as loyalty of his team and associates. A refreshing change!

Grainger at his best!

This felt like a one man stage show. Peripheral characters helped develop this story but the stage was set for DC Smith and the result was Grainger’s best yet. There were lines that I kept replaying, they worked so well. Truly a pleasure.

My Favourite

I loved every minute of this Peter Grainger book. The DC Smith stories are wonderful - my only regret is that I only have a few left. Gildhart Jackson is an amazing narrator.

Loved this novel.

From someone who never really new much, about the Catholic/Protestant horror story in Ireland, this book provided some history into the struggles. The story was wonderful, suspenseful and intriguing. A beautiful love story, that was never meant to be!

Another fine listen in a great series

Thanks Peter Grainger for the writing and to Gildart Jackson for making DC Smith come to life, This is a great series - crime, interesting contexts and compassion in the same well-written package. I am hooked.
