Publisher's Summary

Drs. Barbara Oakley and Terrence Sejnowski's popular Online course Learning How to Learn, based on Dr. Oakley's best-selling book A Mind for Numbers, has enrolled more than 1.8 million students from more than 200 countries. In this much needed follow-up to A Mind for Numbers, the authors teach kids and teens how to learn effectively at a time when they most need these skills.

Learning How to Learn teaches them about the importance of both focused concentration and letting their minds wander, how the brain makes connections between different pieces of information, the value of metaphors in developing understanding, why procrastination is the enemy of problem solving, and much more. Filled with application questions and exercises, this audiobook makes learning engaging and accessible.

Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful

One of the best book I have ever read. I absolutely loved it!! I have applied what this book teaches and I am already seeing a big difference. Although the target of this book if for kids and teens, it really is for everyone.

Instructive

This book will give you the tools to understand your brain, learning methods, and how to study for tests.

The prose is very accessible more towards the 8th grade level, but the content is very deep and sophisticated.

Very good

I thought this was a very good book and resource. I am having my teenage son read this little by little. The book is easy enough to read and understand. To the point and tips can easily be implemented if desired. Would definitely recommend for those that need to learn how to learn

Not that helpful

This book is written for children so I suppose it would be helpful for them. They use some silly metaphors like octopus legs for memory. Most of the tips are just common sense. Get some sleep, use a pomodoro, dont cram before a test, etc. I found the book to be a waste of time. the narrator sounds like Angela Landsbury reading you a bedtime story which you may or may not find annoying. Good book if you’re 12 years old, otherwise skip it.

Inspiring and useful

Terrific. Very motivating and done in a great way with concrete suggestions. Good for any age though my focus was 12-14. But after hearing audio, I got hardcopy and the pictures were much more effective than audio alone. I highly recommend the book.
