Publisher's Summary

The Event Group is comprised of the nation’s most brilliant men and women in the fields of science, philosophy, and the military. Led by Major Jack Collins, their job is to find the truth behind the world's greatest unsolved myths. And this time, Collins and his crew will dare to uncover a terrifying secret - about the long-vanished tribe of the Incas - that's buried deep within the Amazon Basin.

The last expedition into the depths and darkness of the Amazon claimed the lives of a female professor and her team. Now the Event Group, using cutting-edge technology exclusively designed by the U.S. military, will travel to the ends of the earth - from Brazil to the Little Bighorn to the Arlington National Cemetery - to bring new meaning to an ancient disaster... or bury the legend forever... or die trying.

Great story

Couldn't stop listening, kept me wanting to see what was going to happen, a little hard to follow at times had to listen to a few sections a couple of times to follow the plot better.

Last 2/3 of this work was non-stop action-Loved it

The early set-ups and staging was a little tedious, but everything from the moment of the introduction of a "very special vehicle" manned by a crusty old pro-and forward - was the ride of a lifetime. The interplay of good guys being saved by other good guys, who might be bad, and then the bad guys again and tables turned for a 5th time was remarkably easy to follow... Let me just say, that the author pulled it off much better than I can explain it here. Did I mention monsters? YOU GOTTA READ THIS.
Richard Poe's performance had the urgency, surprise, shock and relief everywhere it belonged. He also loaned the narrative an authoritative/military demeanor. Great actor.

Pet peeves of the poor and unpublished.

Loved the story and most of the characters, especially Jenks. I read the series a few years ago, but listening to it being read aloud by a great narrator is a whole other experience. This review isn't as in depth as many excellent reviews given at Goodreads.com. The thing that drove me nuts about about Legend is the excessive use of the adjective "large." Large man, large chair, large object - large, large, large. It's almost as if "large" is being used as a placeholder for an adjective yet to be determined, and then never readdressed. To a lesser extent, "small" is being used the same way, appearing multiple times in a single sentence. In many instances, there is no need to use an adjective at all - drove me crazy! But what do I know; Mr Goleman is a published author, which is more than I can say.

The Event Group continue to roll

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

I would only if I was SURE that they could enjoy the profound leaps of faith that this story, and the Event Group series in general, requires.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

Most: the history of the search for El Dorado over the centuries.
Least: what does the ole' whipping boy, the Roman Catholic Church, have to do with it??

What three words best describe Richard Poe’s voice?

Detailed
Compelling ( at times )
Consistent

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

I rarely go to movies. They play in my head.

Any additional comments?

A good addition to the genre. Slightly higher than mildly amusing.

Another nail-biting story in the series

Another entertaining episode in the event series. Lots of suspense, cliff-hanger situations, betrayals and shadow government elements working to thwart the good guys. In short, a fun novel that was expertly written and narrated.

fun serial writing.

Any additional comments?

The whole Event group series is like an Indian Jones or W13. The plot and pace are enough to keep you moving, subtle humor, and enough freedom to let your mind wander from reality. Which I think is part of the allure of Sci-Fi, enough reality to connect, enough lack of reality to make you wonder.

Payoff not worth Investment

I don't know. I went back and looked at my review of Event. Apparently I didn't write one but I did rate it the same - 2 stars. I don't remember why.

What I do know is ever since I read Event I've thought about the concept. I like the concept that David L. Golemon has introduced us to. But I don't care for the execution.

To put it mildly this book was kind of boring right until the climax and then it was suddenly non-stop, heart pounding action. I felt like the effort just wasn't worth the payoff.

Just as a comparison while listening to this book I was actually reading The Medusa Stone. While this book was a story about a group in search of El Dorado, The Medusa Stone was a story about a group in search of King Solomon's Mine. So very similar stories. But Medusa Stone never let up off the gas pedal whereas Legend just kind of puttered around, took several pit stops, picked it up and throttled up a little bit before starting to putter again.

I absolutely love The Event Group concept. I just wish Mr. Golemon could keep me more interested. I just don't feel like investing anymore time into this endeavor.

Boring

Characters are poorly described, its hard to follow the action in this format. it would be better as a normal book.
