Publisher's Summary

In a world filled with terror, they needed a hero. So, they became one themselves. They’ll fight for survival, and they’ll fight even harder for love.

There’s a place from my nightmares. A place where bad things hide. The memories kept me awake for most of my life. But it’s not what keeps me awake anymore.

It’s her.

She calls me, desperate and pleading. Like a shining star I can’t quite find. I feel those men from my nightmares coming for her. Only, she can’t sense them. She can’t see.

Not the past. Or the future. Unlike me.

Until one day, as I stood in a doorway in the barren wasteland in Afghanistan with my squad at my back. My star dimmed and sputtered out.

I have two holes in my chest now. One which bears her name.

I have to find her. I pray I’m not too late. First I have to find the others, two more guys like me. Together, we seek a North Star. One we were born half in love with. Leading us back home. Without ever knowing we were lost, at all.

Sixth, Oleander, and Spark are the three books the series.

Great series

One of Us Boxset

Sixth

I have a box set of the three books in this series sent to me by the author. I'd read the third book a while back so was very happy to review the entire series.

Sixth is about a young man who grows up unwanted and shunned by those around him. He joins the Marines and is shipped off to Afghanistan. After being injured, he returns home to hunt for three people who have been in his mind for as long as he can remember, and they all revolve around one of the three - Purple Hair - a young woman. In this book, Sixth, Mark, finally teams up with Tex and Shadow to search for the young woman.

Excellent book, excellent narration. And I'm really enjoying the second book as well.
This second book in the trilogy focuses on Oleander and her life as she searches for her father, who abandoned her in Alaska. When she leaves Alaska she ends up in the city of Demand, where she survives on the streets until she catches the eye of Maddox who offers her a place to stay. Things seem to be coming together for her until Prior comes into the building that Maddox owns, notices her, and tells Maddox who she really is. Then the trouble starts.

And then the boys from book one show up.

This book fills in gaps from the first book and moves the story forward as the four of them continue to search for information as to who they really are and why were these things done to them.

Spark

Wow! The only bad thing I can say about this book is that I originally started with book 3. I received it free in exchange for a review. Definitely have to listen or read the other two books, as well as the fourth book when it comes out. Powerful, evocative, emotional writing. Loved the first person.

This is good enough to read alone without reading the other books. You grasp the concept of the series without confusion, although it would be better to read it in order because there are characters that are present that obviously the reader should know about already and they don't. That doesn't take away from the story however.

The narration was great, good clear diction. Loved it.
