Publisher's Summary

Without her alter-ego Erika Jayne, Erika Girardi says she'd just be "another rich bitch with a plane" - so get ready for the dishy, tell-all memoir from show-stopping performer, model, singer, and beloved star of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, Erika Jayne.

Erika Jayne didn't make it this far by holding back. Now, in her first-ever memoir, the fan favorite star of Bravo's The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills bares her heart, mind, and soul.

In Pretty Mess, Erika spills on every aspect of her life: from her rise to fame as a daring and fiery pop/dance performer and singer; to her decision to accept a role on reality television; to the ups and downs of family life (including her marriage to famed lawyer Tom Girardi, 33 years her senior). There's much more to Erika Jayne than fans see on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. Pretty Mess is her opportunity to dig deep and tell her many-layered, unique, and inspiring life story.

As fun and fearless as its author, this fascinating memoir proves once and for all why Erika Jayne is so beloved: she's strong, confident, genuine, and here to tell all!

Light and fun, exactly what we need

The book was light hearted and quick witted, just like the Erika her fans know and love. Insightful as well, the book covers her upbringing and how she established herself as the star (and gay icon that she is)

Pleasantly Surprised

I really enjoyed this book and realized it finally around the 9th chapter that I'm not so different from Erika. She also narrates which conveys her raw emotions, and you can really get a good idea of her tones and feeling while she reads passages of her own written work. I was pleasantly surprised with how much I actually enjoyed listening to this audiobook.

Caution: Strong Woman Ahead

Erika's 'cause no harm, but take no shit,' attitude was on full display in the best way possible through out this book.
Her strength, gratitude, and loving soul captures you in this biography.
I highly recommend!

Pretty Mess better than expected!

Had fairly low expectations but this short and light read was more captivating and entertaining than I expected. Erika is refreshing in her honesty and she’s much more of a sweet and innocent woman albeit strong willed one than many might think. Favorite part was definitely her voice delivering the book. It’s fantastic! I’m a “housewives” fan and she hasn’t really been a favorite for me because she can come across as a bit of a know it all or “better than”? This book has totally changed my opinion of her though, not that Erika Jayne would give a f*ck!!! Lol I def recommend this book - she kept me company during two long hikes!!!

Very bland and poorly executed reading of the book

It's a struggle to complete this ugly mess even for a huge rhobh fangirl like myself. The stories are dry and nothing interesting despite being about a colorful woman. Erika's icy personality is noticeable but never really explored like you expect from a memoir.

I wanted to like this so bad.

I really like watching Erika. I love her music. This book was horrible. It was boring and self-indulgent. The first chapter reads like the filmography section on a stars Wikipedia page. The second chapter is a painful list of all the ways her mother wronged her. A little hypocritical because we find out in later chapters that she leaves her own son to be cared for by the same woman(and others) while she moved solo to LA. The book never picks up speed it just kind of slowly drags on until the final chapter. There are no interesting real housewives stories and very few personal story’s. It was basically a 5 hour long justification of how she really is a performer not just a rich bored wife. Message received!

my EX favorite housewife. used to admire her.

TW: Extravagant scandalous allegations throughout my review. my attitude towards her personal life makes me ashamed I contributed to this pathetic GoFundMe iwroteabook campaign.

I ordered this book while all the public knew was about the divorce. forced myself to listen because I'd already paid for it. she used to be fun. to watch. This is just a self indulgent, glam team toting humble brag with an air of her real self sometimes seen on RHOBH.
Watching the news of what her husband had done really forced me to see her for the gold digger she really is. divorce? strictly to keep her "gifts" and sever herself fro. jer8 husbands embezzlement of clients who put their trust in him. really struggled to get through knowing her ITS EXPENSIVE TO BE ME attitude has cost so many victims and the families that have to go without. sell a few of those loubatons & at least LOOK like you have one ounce of humility instead of greed. pushed through to the end. only because the cost of this book was my "splurge" birthday present. would have never paid of I knew then about the withholding of husbands client funds going to fix her 3bedrooms of pretty messy wardeobes.

sorry victims. I can swear and attest I knew of nothing until I had already read the 1st few chapters & the truth became publc.

again...ALLEGEDLY.

She got the title right... Pretty Mess....

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

From the the first chapter I knew this was a mistake buying it. but I had to force myself to listen to the entireity because I wanted to get my monies worth. She talked fast and if you slowed it down she sounded drunk. So either way it was difficult.

Would you ever listen to anything by Erika Jayne again?

um... no...

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Erika Jayne?

no one, the book was about the most self absorbed person on the planet. First poor poor Erika, her life her mother her father her this her that. Second it became rich rich Erika, her husband, her plane, her clothes, her this her that.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

disappointment. I used to like her now after reading her book, not so much anymore. she was flip flopping from calling her mother Rene then calling her her mother, and she did the same with her grandmother. it was confusing and disrespectful. At least her mother was there thru her whole life as Erica disses her through out the whole book. um...as her son "choose" to be in NY at age 6 with his father. Who at age 6 knows whats best? And he didn't want to be with his mother? What son doesn't want to be with their mother? Oh, yes, her son. By the end of the book, I realize why. She has no time but for herself.
I found myself out loud talking between her lines. the real truth to almost every sentence. She is obviously trying to convince herself otherwise by writing this book.
I felt sorry for her "Rene" her mother, how embarrassing for her. I hope Rene didn't read this book.

Any additional comments?

wish I hadn't read it. I look at her differently now. super snob housewife.

Narrator loves yelling in your ear

Jesus Christ, can someone teach this woman not to begin every sentence about 70 decibels louder than the previous one? My poor ears. Just keep a consistent volume, please!

Pretty PC

Would you listen to another book narrated by Erika Jayne?

Maybe, I love her, but she read too fast and with no... I don't know, it was like listening to someone read a book really fast in a monotone voice, not actually bringing the words to life.
