Story
Story isn't just one way to persuade. It's the way. It's built into the architecture of the brain, and has been since early humans gathered around the camp fire, trying to figure out how to outsmart the lion next door. In Story or Die, story coach Lisa Cron sets out to decode the power of story, first by examining how the brain processes information, translates it into narrative, and then guards it as if your life depends on it.

It's not you; it's your schedule. Does it sound like magic? It's not. We've all heard of circadian rhythms - those biological processes that give us jet lag and make us night owls or early birds. But few of us know just how profoundly these diurnal patterns affect our overall health. Bad habits - like skipping meals, squeezing in workouts, working late into the night and then trying to catch up on sleep during the weekend - disrupt our natural cycles. A growing body of research on chronobiology reveals just how sensitive the human body is to these rhythms all the way down to the genetic level.

Publisher's Summary
What stories do you need to tell, and how do you tell them?
Stories That Stick provides a clear framework of ideals and a concise set of actions for you to take complete control of your own story, utilizing the principles behind the world’s most effective business storytelling strategies.
Professional storyteller and nationally-known speaker Kindra Hall reveals the four unique stories you can use to differentiate, captivate, and elevate:
- The Value Story—convince customers they need what you provide.
- The Founder Story—persuade investors and customers your organization is worth the investment.
- The Purpose Story—align and inspire your employees and internal customers.
- The Customer Story—allow those who use your product or service to share their authentic experiences with others.
Telling these stories well is a simple, accessible skill anyone can develop. With case studies, company profiles, and anecdotes backed with original research, Hall presents storytelling as the underutilized talent that separates the good from the best in business.
Stories That Stick offers specific, actionable steps listeners can take to find, craft, and leverage the stories they already have and simply aren’t telling. Every person, every organization has at least four stories at their disposal. Will you tell yours?
What the critics say
"In my business, telling a personal story is the essence to authenticity, and proof that what I do and who I help really achieves results. Stories share a journey that me and my team can identify with and provide a way to personally connect with our clients."--Autumn Calabrese, Entrepreneur, fitness and nutrition expert
"Storytelling is an art form often lost today among snippets, sound bites, and buzzword copy. Which is unfortunate, because story is how we've connected with each other since language began. In Stories That Stick, Kindra Hall beautifully weaves the argument for story with the best way to craft one. Advice every business owner and influencer needs to understand."--Mel Robbins, author of the international best seller The 5 Second Rule
"Here's the story: Your business is in its current state, you buy this book, read it in one sitting like I did, have your mind blown, your business greatly improves. End scene. Lots of people tell stories, a few are great at it and one can show you how to do it. That's the story of Kindra and this book."--Scott Stratten, best-selling, award-winning author and Hall of Fame speaker/storyteller

Lost in Ramblings - Lacks an Engaging Story
For a book on the importance of storytelling, the author falls really short. I lost interest in all the fluff when what I really wanted was substance. The narrator talks way too fast to be enjoyable and seems to go on forever with uninteresting examples. Also, there are far too many examples and redundancies throughout the book that really drag down the actual point. Lastly, she clearly doesn't understand the role of "Hero" in story. The hero is never the company but always the audience. I wouldn't recommend this book for anyone with storytelling experience in sales and marketing, you'll just be bored and critical.

So enjoyable to listen to and truly helpful
I loved listening to “Stories That Stick”! I had the opportunity to hear Kindra speak live at a conference in the spring and she was amazing. I’ve been anxiously awaiting the drop of this one on audible. Kindra did not disappoint. Not only did she deliver the actual words really well, but the content was interesting, even entertaining, and soooo helpful if you’ve been trying to figure out how to tell your stories and how to tell the right stories! And just how to use stories to your benefit in business (and I dare say in life in general). Anyways, I binge listened to the first 3/4 as I drove 9+ hours to visit family and I’m so glad I did. Now I need to go back and listen with a pen and paper in hand and get to work.

Amazing! Kindra showed me how to level up!
I’m a real estate broker and working to build myself an edge as this is a highly competitive market build on trust and reputation. This book is simply amazing, taught me techniques on storytelling and how that can affect a person’s behavior toward you and your product. I have already started to find the story behind my properties to see how I can show them in the best of light. This book will have a prominent position in my library of knowledge. Thanks Kindra.

Good but not enough instruction
The book is good. There is no doubting the value of storytelling. IMHO, Hall does a wonderful job highlighting the importance and nuances of storytelling but falls short on arming the reader with unique, insightful DIY instructions. My main concerns:
1. too much emphasis on ‘why storytelling.’ We already bought the (audio)book, no need to discuss that 2 hours in.
2. Not enough instruction. Hall admits she doesn’t like writing a How To chapter, and it shows. Much of the book is story examples instead of How To material. She tells stories about other great storytellers but never dissects their work.

All fluff and little substance
I had high hopes for this book, the chapters outline the exact content I wanted to hear. However, for a master storyteller, the author couls not keep my attention. Her stories go on and on-- and are usually based on her.... and they arent interesting. Additionally, just when you finally think shes getting to the point, she will shift again, usually to another story about herself.
This book was far more fluff than substance. Clearly it was written as a sales base for her speaking engagments and likely to hopefully gain more clients. But dont waste your $$ or time. There are much better resources online, for business storytelling.
Also, the author should have chosen a professional to narrate this book- her voice is difficult to listen to for long.

Average book!
Concept of the book is great although it takes the first 6 chapters where the author is attempting to convince the reader that telling stories is important. I already know telling stories is important and only valued the last 4 chapters where the true takeaways provide you value.
I would hesitate recommending this book!

Terrible - Waste of time - Pitch for her services
This was a business card book - no good substance. Wasted 7 hours. Not a DIY book - a pitch for her business. I bought book and audible to prepare to go to seminar and then realized I was going to waste $1000 to attend. Called company to talk to someone that might give me a story that would stick and convince me to attend and they didn't even bother to call me back. My friend ended up canceling seminar at last minute too. She lost money - I lost only book & audible credit cost. I was Too late to get a swap.

Buy this book now!
A little over a year ago I had the pleasure of seeing Kendra Hall on stage at a customer service event. She was a keynote speaker and her topic was on “storytelling.“ She was by far, the most compelling audience-grabbing speaker of the day (as well as a sassy dresser!). I decided to start stalking, I mean, following her on Instagram immediately. She was a very active poster of stories and pictures on Instagram. I felt like I was living vicariously through her and we were becoming virtual one-way BFFs as she walked the streets of New York City. She shared the excitement of wonder the mystery man created from outside their window who played loud music from his parked car while getting coffee. We had a celebrity sighting that was quite exciting. I felt a little jetlagged as she zipped across the country from Keynote to Keynote, but damn, was she the best story teller ever as she kept us all in the loop of what she was up too. I remember the day she revealed she was publishing a book about storytelling and I stood ready to be one of the first in line to pre-order her book on Amazon. Shortly after I pre-ordered her book, I received an unexpected email from Kendra which included a video thanking me for my purchase…Who does that?! An author who cares about her audience and the experience she creates for her audience. Which is her secret elixir!! She captivates you word by word, sentence by sentence, paragraph by paragraph, chapter by chapter, in her new kick ass book, Stories That Stick. Not only did I pre-order the book in hardcopy, I pre-ordered the book in Audible… And within a week of its release I had listened to every single word written and spoken by none other than Kendra herself. Not only is her book engaging in a way only a storyteller can tell, it’s filled with practical tips and tools anyone of us can master. If you’ve ever been captivated by an amazing story, Kendra can give you the formula to create them for yourself. Quite simply, she’s a master of her craft. Don’t pass go or collect $200.. go by the freakin book and follow her on Instagram! But remember, she was my virtual one-way BFF first!!

The recipe to the secret sauce of story marketing.
I am a professional artist, and am often advised to “tell your story” to connect with potential collectors. Ok-I’m good with that. The problem was I had no idea HOW to do it, or if I even HAD a story. Though I had read a lot about story marketing from other people, it never got me anywhere.
This book however, delivers. I have found myself grabbing a pen and paper taking notes, and listening intently.
Both entertaining and informative, this book is hands down the best money I have ever spent on marketing.

Teaches storytelling by using great storytelling!
As an author and inspirational speaker, I have read several books on the art of storytelling to improve my skills. Many of them offer convoluted strategies on how to tell a more impactful story. This book simplifies business stories into 4 parts and 3 sections. And, it gave me one crucial idea: you don't need drama to be effective. I now feel confident that I can use everyday events to creat engaging value stories, purpose stories, and update my founder's story. (And, if I've learned my lessons well, this review is a solid example of a customer story.)

I didn’t think I could but now I believe I can!
Thank you Kendra for writing this book! I am more analytical by nature and love facts and information and have always struggled to tell stories. I’ve been looking for help in this area for years and years and the answer is this book! You broke it down in easy parts, you made it seem like a natural human thing to do, and you influenced me to have the confidence that I too can tell stories!

Compelling, Informative, and Entertaining
I first saw Kindra Hall speak at a conference, and she recommended that if we wanted to dive deeper into her content, that we buy her book...so I did.
As an audio book, she is one of the best narrators I have listened to (no wonder, as a good portion of the book is stories and she is a professional storyteller). As an informative guide to finding, crafting, and telling stories this book checks all the boxes. Moreover, all the points are driven home with- you guessed it- stories. These stories are written so eloquently that you can visualize, feel, and experience those moments. For me, it made the book easy to remember.
Business books on audio can be hard for me to remember. There are a lot of intricate details that I want to go back and highlight, but you can't do that on audio, so I often find myself listening to the same ones again and again. This one, however, was written so beautifully, that I feel like I remember all of the key points, and though I will be listening to it again- it will be to search for golden nuggets and to improve my storytelling, not because I cannot remember the overall ideas and methods. I feel equipped and ready to share my stories... now that I know how to artfully and strategically craft and tell them.

She practices what she preaches
Wow. This book was incredibly fun to listen to. She told stories about telling stories and she did it masterfully. I’ve never enjoyed a business/marketing book more. I’m committed to developing the skill of storytelling in my business and in life in general.
