Publisher's Summary

Ahren: Ahren's life consists of being beaten up by his drunkard father or bullied by the village lads. But at the annual suitability tests for apprenticeships, the young boy finds himself selected by Falk, the guardian of the forest, to be his apprentice and his world is turned upside down.

From his new master, he learns the skills of archery and how to fight the Dark Ones. And then, on the day of the Spring Ceremony, there is another unexpected turn of events. He touches the Stone of the Gods and it illuminates for the first time ever. It isn't long before a cantankerous wizard turns up and urges Falk and Ahren into action.

The Naming: Two Einhans have been found but the third is still at large. Time is of the essence. Ahren's Appointment as the 13th Paladin - assisted by the three Einhans - must occur by the winter solstice. If not, He, Who Forces will awaken before his time and plunge the unprepared peoples of Jorath into the depths of darkness.

The Brazen City: The saga of the 13th Paladin continues. Join him and his friends on their adventures in the Sunplains and enjoy meeting his old friends in Deepstone again.

Note: This audiobook includes Books 1-3 in the 13th Paladin series.

fantastic

This series has kept me invested from the get go. I put it towards the top in epic fantasies. I love the narration and can easily say this is worth the time for anyone even slightly interested in the genre.
If only book 11 didn't change narrators....

Enjoyable from the start

I was looking forward to a complete story. Happily disappointed that the story must go on. Now I have to find the rest of the story.

couple of messed up things to it.

The story of how two heavily abused young people are thrust together into a toxic relationship. One is constantly praised, and allowed to reenact prior abuses upon the other. The other is essentially told that the abuse they suffered was of no consequence, and to accept further abuses, because they really are worthlessly stupid.
I think the author hates the mc.

Mistakes by author

This may sound trivial, but the author is writing about a completely different world, and that’s hard to sell as it is. Then the author uses expressions for dialogue like “He just got off Scot free”. Or “There’s no way on Earth…” and that pulls you out of the story and makes it very difficult to forget that this is just a book and certainly not something to get lost in. The “Scot free” was used at least 3x in a world where Scotland doesn’t exist.

Focuses too much on morality

At first I liked the book the story itself seemed pretty cool a fantasy world with epic adventure too bad the story’s ruined by the main characters constant moral dilemmas and whining. It makes the main character un relatable. I gave up a little into the second book like I said the potential was great just boring now

I don't understand

why can't author's write a decent story where the main character has a mind of their own. about 90 percent of the books on audible the main character is a mindless slave its really annoying

An entertaining Tale. Worth a Listen.

While it may not be some epic in the same league as a lot of popular fantasy authors out there, it was still quite enjoyable for me. I look forward to more from this series. We get to watch a fifteen year old boy learn about the vast world outside the small isolated village he grew up in. While it shows how naïve he can be, it also produces some truly comical moments. All of this while coming to terms with that he is a member of an ancient order to fight an evil god. The action and fight scenes are not over the top or unbelievable for the genre. Over all it is well written and has a decent story. Wasn't so sure about the narrator when It first started, but he grew on me as the book progressed.

Extremely sophomoric

All of the base elements of the story are solid, if a bit tried and true, but the characters, story progression, and story arc are all overwhelmingly simplistic. None of this is helped by a stable but uninspired reading.

enjoying it

I'm really enjoying this tale. I'm assuming there are more books to come from the author. that being said things to note for those thinking of buying. I quite enjoyed the narration, it feels like the grandfather reading the princess bride. if your looking for a more dynamic narration its not here. a lot of the complainers are comparing about how Ahren the MC is not growing up, apparently their reading comprehension is lacking. he begins the tale at not quite 13 and finishes the current text at around 15 and a half. if anyone knows a 15yo that doesn't have growing up to do they're a liar. I will say the translation has moments that pull you out of the story using colloquial terms. overall I'll be waiting for the next book!

Exceptionally entertaining.

I loved it from start to finish. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I grew to enjoy this cast of characters. At times they annoy and other times make you laugh. Without giving anything away I just want to say if you are slightly interested in this book series give it a chance as it is definitely worth it. I bought the audio version then the paperback to give to a friend to share the journey. I rarely leave lengthy reviews but thought this definitely merited it. A true joy and a story I look forward to continuing.

Generally poor

Poor plot, unliekable characters, below average narration. Not worth the credit, even with the three book set
