To make things worse, Liz is the ex-girlfriend of DCI Craig Gillard who is drawn into the investigation. Is it just a missing person or something worse? Detective Sergeant Chris Waters got the call at 05.29 that July morning. This is it, said DCI Reeve, you'll be first there, it's all yours, you're the crime scene manager. Suddenly, after months of waiting and wondering, Waters finds himself in at the deep end, and alone at the scene of a puzzling murder. As the investigation proceeds, the detectives at Kings Lake Central find themselves visiting familiar places and talking to some familiar faces, while old enmities reappear in the incident room. Before this is over, Chris Waters will need to make a career-changing decision.

Histoire
When Matt Ballard was starting out his career, three boys were murdered in the same area, the remote and bleak Gibbet Fen. When the main suspect was killed in a hit-and-run, the killings stopped. But Matt was not satisfied that the real murderer had been caught. Over 25 years later, Matt gets a photo in an unmarked envelope. It's of the Gibbet Fen crime scene. And the picture was taken before the murder took place. More photos arrive, relating to the historic murders, as well as intimate pictures of Matt's very secret private life.

Description
DCI Craig Gillard will be pushed to his limits. But will he break? It seems like a routine disappearance, a case of musician’s stage fright. As a senior detective, Craig Gillard isn’t sure why he’s even involved. Until it turns out the woman’s father is the German minister of justice, and the British home secretary is on the case, too.
But nothing about the case is simple. How does a woman on a train simply vanish? What do you do when a trail runs cold and the pressure is on?
Before long the perpetrator has another target: DCI Gillard himself. What if the detective isn’t just running the case but is part of it? The victim merely a lure for a bigger fish.
The answer is under the bridge. The chilling setting for the biggest challenge of his life.
The latest DCI Gillard Crime Thriller is a knockout: fast and completely gripping, perfect for fans of Stuart Macbride, Mark Billingham and Robert Bryndza.

The Best In the Series So Far
I've listened to the first 4 books in this series and liked them. But this one has been the best so far. There has been no drag or lag or overly detailed passages at all. Marston York's narration is the cream on top. His performance makes the writing flow. The thing is this high standard of story telling and narration makes it difficult to tolerate the 'average' in other books. I highly recommend this.

Another fast paced twister
Thoroughly enjoyed it. The idea of women who should know better falling for a sick conman is unpleasant but apparently not unheard of.
I like the narrator’s style.

Body under the Bridge
Satisfying story, although I find the female characters not well portrayed. Had hoped that Sam (or any one of the female officers) would show the strong independence that appeared in the first book. Parts of the story seemed contrived, but overall, an engaging listen.
