Publisher's Summary

Fall in love with this hilarious and heartwarming USA Today best-selling romantic comedy that LJ Shen calls "an absolute treat".

Kristen Petersen doesn't do drama, will fight to the death for her friends, and has no room in her life for guys who just don't get her. She's also keeping a big secret: facing a medically necessary procedure that will make it impossible for her to have children.

Planning her best friend's wedding is bittersweet for Kristen - especially when she meets the best man, Josh Copeland. He's funny, sexy, never offended by her mile-wide streak of sarcasm, and always one chicken enchilada ahead of her hangry. Even her dog, Stuntman Mike, adores him. The only catch: Josh wants a big family someday. Kristen knows he'd be better off with someone else, but as their attraction grows, it's harder and harder to keep him at arm's length.

The Friend Zone will have you laughing one moment and grabbing for tissues the next as it tackles the realities of infertility and loss with wit, heart, and a lot of sass.

"Your next favorite romantic comedy...The Friend Zone is that rare beach read with tons of heart that will make you laugh and cry in equal parts." (PopSugar)

"Your next rom-com to obsess and cry over." (Cosmopolitan)

What the critics say

"The Friend Zone is a deliciously hot, sweet debut full of banter I couldn't get enough of. I loved all the characters, from Kristen and Josh, to the supporting cast, and even Stuntman Mike. This book is an absolute treat." (L.J. Shen, USA Today best-selling author)

Thumbs down overall

- The female narrator is distracting. A lot of vocal fry and a strange inflection at the end of sentences that makes everything sound overly sarcastic
- Main female character is tiresome. Too much of the same obsessive theme
- Main male character was okay but it was disappointing how the author painted firefighters as such jaded professionals, which had almost no relevance to the storyline
- The story held promise initially but felt pretty over the main themes by the end. Didn’t see the twist coming so I guess I’ll give it that

One of my favourite, sweet and funny

Great story, detailed characters you get attached too. Loved the storyline, with moments of laughers and others more heart breaking. Great balance. And the narrators are so good! Easy to read, light romance book, I have no doubt you’ll enjoy it as much as I did.

All the emotions

I laughed, cried, had my heart squeeze… the story kept me up later in the night while breastfeeding, than my baby did!

Nice love story

Not my favourite book by the author, but I enjoyed it. Found it repetitive at times and was shocked by an unexpected turn. Really couldn’t stand the way both of the readers finished their sentences, something about the way it sounded 😑 was kind annoying.
Just once I’d like for them to read the book together so that the man didn’t have to try and do the woman’s voice and vice versa!!

Not very good

I found this book frustrating. The female main character was annoying with her stubbornness/need to be a martyr and it felt like it dragged on way too long and I got over it. The story dragged on, the tortured romance dragged on, and I nearly didn’t finish the book just because I was sick of it all.

Also I have to echo what another reviewer said. The female narrator sounds like a wizard when she’s doing a male voice and it’s really challenging to endure.

I would skip this Jimenez book.

Skip Immediately despite Zachary Webber

This book is the epitome of ‘I’m not like other girls except…’ and ‘-alpha male’ bs military and sexist stereotypes. We hate one guy because he like theatre and charcuterie?? Brad must wear pink shorts :/ I can’t begin to describe how ridiculous this book is. I would urge you to skip despite Zachary Webber being an excellent narrator.

“Cool girl” trope done badly

If you’ve read Gone Girl you know what I’m saying. I was almost surprised this wasn’t a parody.

Good story. Performance meh.

Really enjoyed the male chapters of this story, on the other hand, I could not stand the female voice. The exaggerating of words made it very hard to listen to. Will always check future books before purchasing knowing who reads it.
